Is PAL Serious?

PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR THIS RANT !

I have flown 3 round trip flights in as many years from San Francisco to Manila on Philippine Airlines. 2 other times I have flown Cathay Pacific. The down side of Cathay Pacific is that it requires a stop in Hong Kong, but the flight/service/food,,,everything is impeccable.

But PAL is only crediting me 1 mile each way for this last flight I took in August. After calling today I was told that the reason was "its a promo fare, sir...you are only credited 1 mile".

I paid $974.70 for this flight. You call that a promo fare?

1 mile each way?

I am sticking with Cathay Pacific from now on, at least their lavatory sinks don't get clogged up.

Thanks for listening,

Peace

i agree with u, i only flew one time with PAL and never again bcz i can get cheaper fares in continental and i love the service too, if u like Cathay Pacific then stick with that, have a safe flight, abby n sheryl

I have had several poor customer service experiences with PAL and refuse to use that airline again unless I just can't avoid it. I have made several trips to the PI and have only used them for one. They made a mistake in ticketing one time and then told me I had to wait a month to get a refund even though it was there mistake. I can't stand poor customer service. I don't care if I have to make multiple stops to avoid PAL, I will do it.

You are right on the money! Many of us have experienced this stingy approach and way of doing business from PAL. I get burned about $20 bucks every time I fly PAL domestic cuz my bag is more than 20 Kilos, and I get ZERO miles on the "Fiesta Fare" I take 300 miles south to Cebu.

Cathay Pacific can't be beat for the price you pay, and the service, food, entertainment center you get on a long haul flight. Yes, stopping over in HKG is a pain, but worth it. PAL is a joke. THe food is terrible, the seats have less leg room, and entertainment center is non-existant.

$940 USD is what I paid recently on Cathay from LAX to MNL. WOrth every penny, plus actual miles you get!

I gotta agree. Cathay Pacific is hard to beat even with the layover. Actually Singapore Air is fantastic, that is if you can find a flight to Manila. There customer service is hands down the best.

I've flown PAL to las vegas, and never had any problems.. maybe because we had a business class ticket.

Good Luck to all of you!!

Yeah, if you can fly business class the service is well worth the extra money, not just on PAL but all of the airlines. It can get into your pocket quick though when you upgrade.

Another note on PAL. I sent them an email asking about a 20% one time, immigrant, one-way ticket for my wife that I heard about here on VJ. I also asked if a round trip ticket is less then a one-way can I buy that and not use the return ticket. There was the reply that the 20% is not offered with on-line tickets and I need to read the "fare rules details" to see if there will be any penalties.

I sent them back a reply with one more question and I have not received any reply. Even after sending it to them again. Looks like you only get one chance to get any questions answered by PAL.

I am going to look at the R-T ticket and really read and print the fare rules details. $630 for a R-T ticket is sure better then the $918 one-way! So far the best one-way ticket I have found it Hawaiian Air with a stop over in Hawaii. If I planned it out sooner I would have picked her up there and had another honeymoon. then both of us fly to Seattle.

Keep the tips rolling in.

Cathay Pacific is awsome  I will only fly Cathay to the Philippines. I certainly don't mind the layover at the Hong Kong airport.

I agree. I flew PAL a couple times in the past, but their mileage program is inferior IMO.. EVA AIR has some pretty good prices for this next month, I've seen $700-850 RT lax-mnl. I fly strictly Continental, as i enjoy being a onepass elite member. I think it pays off in the long run staying loyal to one airline company, IF they have a decent frequent flyer program.
