So I got my car registerd the other day at the DMV

The woman was not very polite... she was quite angry actually that canada doesnt have titles... she didnt know what to do and ended up having me sell my car to myself b/c I am now married and my car was in my maiden name. They took my little green ownership paper from canada, and my husband asked me when she left the counter again to check things if it was my paper stating me as the owner and my car info and I said yes an he was worried they would try to tax me and say that I bought the car new, so when she came back we had her make a photocopy of my ownership papers and stamp it and date it before she took them from me. she said she would not issue me a title for my car if i didnt give up my papers? I found this really strange.. anyways over 200$ later I now have a title and plates for my car... yikes the line up for the new driver license was so long that we didnt even bother as all the car stuff took us atleast 2-3 hours unfortunatly, cus they also had to check my car and everything too. ill have to update on the driver license later!

SSN was not so bad, went into the office and got a number waited for a bit wasnt to long then got called to a window, i gave her my SSN form i filled out and put my MIL ID my passport and our marriage certificate on the counter for her, she said that she couldnt find me in the system and to hold on a second. she took my passport and left for a minute then came back clicked some more things on her computer and then printed something out for me to check my personal info and sign sayin its true. she double checked that i wanted the card in my married name i said yes. then she said thank you and handed me a paper saying my card will be in the mail in aprox 6 weeks or we will be notified if they cannot complete the check. ( still waitin on the card but its only been 2 days lol )

Other than that I got my MIL ID and my tricare medical prime and my tricare dental all hooked up! just waiting on ssn and driver license so we can go fix our bank account stuff and then on to file AOS weeeeeeee.

on a side note, the judge yelled at my husband on our wedding day cus he wanted to use ring pops( the candy) for our rings as ours hadnt come in yet! he got very stern and said no! i take marriage seriously this is a serious union! and he went in the back room and put his robe on. the look on my husbands face ( then fiancee) was PRICELESS!!! after we were married and the judge blessed us he was in a lighter mood and let us take a funny picture with the rings and joked a bit about it saying we were a cute couple and everyone in the office was telling him we were cute. lol

Love the part about the rings!

I also had a bit of a discussion with a dealership when I was trading in my car a few weeks ago. They were trying to insist I would not be able to trade my old car in without the "title." I explained that in Ontario the green registration was the same as a title. Eventually they got it but they also took the entire form rather than just the one side (as instructed on the back!) I also got a photocopy just in case. Interestingly enough they were not interested in any of my import papers.
