Can someone help me with this question. My wifes Green Card expires in November. We have already received the I-751 (751?) 171?. I don't remember the dang numbers on those receipt notices. Anyway on the letter it says her ability to work and travel is extended for one year while going through the removal of conditions. In November we must go to Hong Kong to visit her son. I know I can fly into Hong Kong with no issues. What must my wife do to be allowed entry into HK? And can you direct me to a link in order to preceed with the required steps for her to gain access for a visit. She's a citizen of mainland China. And we will be entering HK from Korea via LA.

thx

Todd

Entry requirements are the same... it is based on her citizenship and not her residency status... If a mainland chinese citizen requires a visa then that requirement still exists for her today...

Anyone travelling on Chinese passport is given a 7-day stay automatically when arriving Hong Kong, provided that he/she is in transit to another location. With that in mind, when flying in from overseas, no proof of travel itineraries is needed; when arriving from mainland China, be prepared to show airline booking to another country. I have done this numerous times.

Your wife can apply for a 30-day permit at the Chinese Embassy or one of the consulates, depending on where you live. The cost is $10.

If your wife's stay in Hong Kong is not expected to last more than 14 days total, there is no need to apply for a permit. Simply go to Shenzhen after 7 days, turn around, and re-enter Hong Kong.

If she hasn't received the permanent greencard by the time you go, it is a good idea to visit your local USCIS office to get an I-551 stamp in her passport for just in case - it is not for CBP (unpon returning to the US), but rather it is for airline employee/immigration control when you are in China.
