Nowhereman, no disrespect to you but you got LUCKY. It really has nothing to do with the validity of your relationsip. I think if we compared our case to yours, you would find less red flags on our case than yours. HOWEVER, everyone who interviewed with the African American consul got NO AP and everyone who interviewed with the blonde, Jenny GOT AP. Consider yourself lucky and we realize we were unlucky to inteview with this woman. It makes no difference at the end of the day because we will get through this too and look back and laugh about it one day. And please stop telling others to be patient unless you are or have been in the same situation at thiers.

betsy , come on . nowhereman didn't mean to upset you or to say something that might make you feel bad ... all he said is just what happened to him during his interview , and yes you are right we were having a bad luck to get our interview with jenny but anyways it happened and sooner or later jenny will have nothing to do but to issue our visas .

AP may have to do with doubts in the relationship or verifying that a divorce paper is not needed. AP also can be a name check and that has NOTHING to do with which CO interviewed you.

AP does suck!! Probably one of the worst days of my life was at our interview (I was there and we were questioned separately by two different men) when the CO said, "I have good news - I believe your relationship and I have bad news, we need to do additional processing." I didn't know at that time we were entering 11 months of AP Hell - but I did know he wasn't coming back to the US with me, as planned.

Advice -- use time to organize, clean and make space for your spouse, plus exercise, plus practice cooking yummy dishes plus moan with others on VJ. Call DOS every other week for any status change. If it is a name check, DOS has to give approval before a visa can be issued.

jenny doesn't look so bad actually but she's depending on some tecnique in interviewing , she is always trying to make you get nervous and lose control ...but i hope she's fair enough about the AP .

i hope the ppl whom interviewed by her will tell us when they get out of AP so then we know how much does it take her to issue a visa .

Betsy El Sum Hang in there i really know how it feels .Its really hard and its the worst part of the the visa journey .

I have been under AP since March 2009 '' almost 6 months '' and still no visa .

They asked for my passport on July ,30,2009 and i sent it to them on Aug ,2,2009.

and i did not get the visa yet .

In fact we are 3 couples and we had our interview in March and still waiting .

Yeah BTW i interviewed by a very nice girl ''not the blond not the African American woman '' and she put me under AP for 6 months so far .

She told me after the interview that everything looks awesome but she needs to do some Administrative review .I asked her how long it will take ? she said about 2 weeks ....yeah right LOL

It means Administrative Process

• What is Administrative Processing?

AP is also called Additional Administrative Processing and is when the applicant is being checked more closely. It can be for security checks which encompass fingerprints and/or name checks or for document verification.

• When does Administrative Processing Happen?

AP can happen at any time during your processing. It can happen at a service center, at the NVC level, or at the embassy level. It mainly is discussed here in the forums at the embassy level.

• Who can get Administrative Processing and Why?

AP usually affects men and women from certain countries but anyone can get AP. Persons coming from T countries (Terrorist Countries) seem to have more security checks and have to endure AP at the embassy level after their interview. Common names, your nationality, religion, education, relationship of applicant, travels and job can all be factors for AP. Having incomplete or missing documents will also cause a case to be put in AP. In some cases if the embassy does not believe in the validity of the relationship they can investigate it further with a field investigation.

• What are the T-Countries?

Although it is classified, the list of countries reportedly affected by these restrictions includes, but is not limited to, Afghanistan,

Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Djibouti, Egypt,

Eritrea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya,

Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia,

Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates,

• Can I check the status of my case?

The embassy will not in many cases respond to emails until a certain amount of time has elapsed. The best bet is to contact Department of State aka: DOS and ask them for an update bi-weekly. They will not be able to give you details but they can tell you if the case is still pending in AP or cleared.

• DOS information:

DOS can be contacted Monday through Friday during business hours. You must have all information concerning your case with you so that they can assist you.

• Can I expedite this process?

The simple answer is NO. No one can expedite the checks since they are considered a matter of National security. An elected official can only make a congressional inquiry on your behalf. They cannot get the checks finished any faster.

• Does AP have any time frame for completion?

NO AP can last anywhere from days, weeks, months and in a few cases years.

Anyone that happens to be given a 221(g) or Administrative Processing letter must be patient and let them do their work. Do not call constantly and ask about your case. Remember each time your case is moved it can then end up at the bottom of the stack and your time can be extended. Each case is different so you cannot judge your case by any other and each consulate/embassy may have a different average time for completion of AP.

u start ur comment saying `` no disrespect to u `` , then u made assumptions bla bla bla ...

if u r ignornat about someone case then u CANT assume ..

and i didnt talk about UR CASE ..i just explained what been said to me at my Interview so everyone can benefit ...

and truly ..i have 3 BIG red flags in my case ...here is two of them

1: my wife is older than me (big difference )

2: my wife was married someone before who got residency through her ....

and the third is private but its BIGGER than the two above ...

so what u think ? do u have bigger red flags ?

and although this i got my Visa ..BECAUSE AP is either for name check of validity of relationship and documents ...

so this is the fact ...believe it or leave it ..

it could be worse after 10 months of AP my husbands case was sent back to USCIS with no explanation and we are still waiting to hear what the problem is so when you think things couldnt get worse they can so be happy and relax in general AP is not lasting that long.
