Psychics Anyone?

So I was thinking about heading to my local bistro/coffee house today, when I remembered that they have a psychic there every Thursday. I was thinking I might go down and see what that's all about. So, anyway, this made me wonder..... what are your experiences or thoughts on the matter?

My 2.5 yo daughter freaked me out a few months ago. We were sitting in an IHOP and she started talking about the table of men at another table. She was asking me a question about them and she said something like, "What are those men doing and that sick boy?" I turned around to look and there was a perfectly healthy looking teenager sitting among about 6 or 7 grown men. She said it loud enough to be heard and I wanted to get her to stop talking about the men, so I said something like, "Nobody is sick." But she insisted, "He IS a sick boy, mamma. He is too sick." When I didn't answer or tried to hush her, she got upset and kept insisting that the boy was sick. He looked healthy to me, and maybe she just got the wrong impression somehow, but maybe she could see something that other people could not.

Then a month or so later, she saw a ghost. She sees make-believe ghosts a lot, but this was different. She was standing still, looking at the back door of an industrial building one evening after an event we had attended there. I was calling her, but she didn't seem to hear me. Then, suddenly, she turned around and ran away from the building, but not towards me. She tripped and fell, and when she got up, she saw me. She let out a sound of relief and said, "That was scary!" I asked why it was scary. I thought she meant tripping and falling. She said, "I saw a ghost. He said 'Go away!'" She began describing the ghost. He had purple and green stripes on his legs and he was dancing wildly. She gave other details and they all reminded me of an egou at a Revenant in my husband's country. These are the dead "brought back to life" in a traditional Vodun ceremony. They are dressed in very colorful costumes and they dance. The only time my daughter has seen a Revenant was when she was 7 months old on a video on TV when we were in Benin, and I remember her running back and forth in her playpen, babbling at the top of her lungs when it was on, not watching it. I remember it clearly because she was moving so fast and she couldn't yet walk without holding on to something. And I had never seen her so excited before.

I just remembered about the time that a friend of mine told me she saw me with an older Black Woman dressed in traditonal clothing and a young, "dark" girl. This was a year before I met my husband who is African. His mother always wore traditional African clothing. And we now have a "dark" little girl.

And my husband had a dream shortly after our daughter was born where his mother visited him and told him that our daughter would have trouble with her lungs. She has been diagnosed with asthma.

I still tend to believe it was coincidence, but I'm open to it being something else.

At work, we had an afternoon off for "group bonding". We decided to hire 3 psychics to do readings. It was on February 13. The lady said I would be engaged very soon to an "aloof" man. Chris arrived in Canada on the 14th, and proposed on the 18th. That was weird.

Although, she said I'll come into a lot of $$$ and that has not happened. Damn. I would have preferred the money.

I went a gypsy woman once with my friend, and it was fun. She told all about my future husband and it all came true. Sometimes I can predict the future. Maybe I have third eye. I know it's bad, but sometimes I feel like something is going to happen, and it does, I guess.

Well, I never made it to the psychic! I was delayed in my other errands so I ran out of time. I'm going to try to make it there this Thursday. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I went to see a psychic once. Immediately after sitting down her head started to twitch (I thought "here we go") then she said she felt a strong presence in the room, she asked me if I knew anybody called "Amik". My parents wanted to name me Amik, but changed their mind at the last minute... Amik is me! I was so freaked right there and then, she could have told me anything and I would have believed it. She was right about most stuff... But I hate to hear about the future, because then you try to make things happen.

I beleive it exists for sure, but also for sure there are a lot of charlatans and snake oil salesmen.

Has anyone ever seen Lisa Williams or her show? I totally think she is for real.

as for myself, I've had some completely freaky dreams, some about personal situations, but about oh maybe 10 years ago I was at my moms house visiting with my son and I had an EXTREMELY vivid dream that I had been in a plane crash over the ocean and that I was sitting on a floating piece of wreckage with a couple of people including a woman who was really really freaking out. I could see and hear other people all around along with other parts of the plane and debris, but we were close enough to land to be able to see it on the horizon and I remember telling the woman with me that we were going to be ok, that people from the land could see where we went down and that they would be coming to help us as soon as the sun came up ( it was just getting light). It was so real that even now as I am typing this it comes back to me in a lot of detail, and I just remember feeling a combination of almost panic and needing to try to stay calm. ANYWAY, I got up that morning, my son was a baby so I dealt some with him and then I went to my mom's room where she was getting ready for work and she had the news on. As I was sitting there talking to her, a 'breaking news' thing came on about a plane crash off the coast of I think Jamaica - that it had happened off the coast about an hour before dawn and that rescuers were getting out there beginning to find people in the water. It was probably one of the strangest moments of my entire life - sitting there watching that newscast and just feeling certain that in some weird weird way I had been there.....

All I can say is that I have had experiences that my friend considers psychic. Or psychotic.

My most common (as in has happened about 3 times in 2009 so far and about 4 times in 2008) are that before I go out or while I am at work I get these strong feelings I'm going to see a specific person and most of the times that I have these feelings, I do. It always freaks me out because when I get the feeling I say, "nahhh" and it's not as though I see these people often to begin with. Or like one time before turning down a road late at night that I have driven down many times before, I had this strong feeling that I should slow down even more and go around the corner carefully. I followed my instinct and there was a black dog just standing in the road. For whatever reason, the dog would not move, just stood there. If I tried going around, he would then move in front of my car even more. He didn't bark or anything until I opened my window and said something. I tried honking and it wouldn't move. Eventually, I just had to ease in slowly and it left. Kind of a creep of a dog.

I had a similar experience, not a dream....but I was having a conversation with a friend about flying and I said I would never fly on Concorde as I was sure it would crash soon...a few hours it crashed in Paris...totally freaked my friend and I felt a bit uneasy too

I'm not sure what I believe about psychic ability, but I guess I think we can read subtle, subconcious messages. However, something happened this weekend that was a little strange.

My sister lives 1000s of miles from me. She was in the hospital and we knew she would deliver that day, Sunday. My husband was in bed taking an afternoon nap, or so I thought. I was there to, reading. I had just checked the clock because I needed to call my aunt. It was 4:24. My husband said, "I see the baby." I thought he was talking in his sleep, though why he would do that in English, I don't know. Then he said, "(Sister's name)'s baby is coming. I see it. Everything is okay."

Fifteen minutes later my mom called. She said my sister had delivered at 5:27. (They are an hour ahead of us.)Mom and baby were doing great.

Coincidence? Chances are it was. After all, we knew she was going to deliver sometime that day. But I started hearing the theme to the Twilight Zone.

I'm on the side which says our brains do a lot of work that we are not completely conscious of, and that premonitions and feelings etc. are just the vague manifestations that come out when that starts to push into our conscious mind. Especially in dreams. We have 5 senses which gather a lot of information. More than we could ever hope to process consciously. "Psychic" powers can be largely attributed to this. And in others (like readers) to people who have more finely tuned their ability to correctly interpret visual and tone clues that the average person doesn't pay attention to.

For example, 5 months after my 18 year old dog died, my roommates' cat had kittens. There was one which had similar coloring to my dog (they were both black/brown), and she was affectionate with me. I started having dreams about my dog, and this idea that it was her spirit in the kitten - I ended up keeping that kitten. Do I really believe that my dog's spirit lives on in my cat? No. I think I had an emotional attachment to one, was reminded however vaguely by visual cues of her when I looked at the cat, and that spurred an emotional bond to the cat.
