San francisco area anyone please please tell me how many days it takes after interview for oath letter I applied september 16 2009 and was interviewed on December 8 and passed so anyone with past expereance on recent interview date please post it I am sorry in previous posting i put september 8th my mistake.

You will be most likely have your oath by early Jan. Forget about having the one on Dec 17th. My interview was Dec 3rd in San Francisco and I am still waiting too. Just be patient! It will happen soon.. I hope this will help you..

Maryces21, congrats with passing your interview, sorry to see that it was not so smooth. Any idea when they will schedule your oath, do they have a time limit? where do they schedule oath, in jacksoville office itself?.
do you know if they do same day oath in Jacksonville? Did you ask them if they do? Again congrats and three Cheers!!!!!

Ok guys, I passed the test.
Now some details.

We arrived to the Immigration office at 8:15 am, I put my Interview letter on the interview box then 20 minutes later the Immigration officer called my name. I left my Husband in the waiting room. We went to a little office and then he asked me to raised my hand and swear a will say the true.

I sat in the chair and the first question he asked me was if that was my husband. I answer yes and then he asked me How was our marriage? I said perfect and then he said perfect? I told him with up and down, but most of them ups. Then he checked my name, birth date and country. Then asked me about my trips (just one). He was straight to the point he did not want explanations. He asked me about my taxes (we have an installament agreemment) he wanted to see copies from the IRS of Current status. I was nervous, he was not a nice person, just was there to do his job, not to make friends. At first I could not find the copy of my last letter form the IRS, and then he got mad, and told me I should be ready, he told me to take the papers off his desk. Finally!!!!! I found it. He then asked me other question yes and not. Asked me about my speeding ticket. He then asked me about My stepson, if I have adopted him. I told him not. Then he asked me to read. What do we pay to the goverment? And then told me to write "We pay Taxes". Then the questions;

What is freedom of religion?

When the constitution was written?

Named one state that borders Canada?

How many senators are?

and other two I do not remember. Everything was fast. I just answered.

Then he told me he was approving me, and make me signed in two places, the same with the pictures. He gave me a piece of paper that said i passed and told me to wait for the Oath Ceremony letter, amybe for next year. I lived in a really small city and they have ceremonies 4 times a year. The next will be in February or January. That it is. 15 or 20 minutes and we were on our way back home at 9 am.

Now I will have to wait for my oath letter. I will let you know when i get the letter.

I did not ask, I think they do not have same day oath ceremony. He told me since I live in the panhandle area I would have to wait to see when they will have a Oath ceremony. That they did not have the schedule for next year yet. I did call the 2 US courts near my area, and one of them is having the oath in Feb 26th, so I think probably I will get a oath letter for that one. Maybe since you live close to Tampa, you may have a closer day that mine. I will let you know when I receive the letter.

well my citizenship interview is coming up..its this Wednesday =/

I have a question about the civics test and those 10 questions that they ask..

one thing i don't get is that some questions have multiple answers...for example " what are the TWO rights in the declaration of independence? than they give you 3 choices and of course we pick only two .. its clear..

but what about if they are not clear......for example: What is the rule of law? than they give you 4 different answers ..do you only pick one or do you have to answer all of them ? like this....

ex:

What is the rule of law?

* everyone must follow the law

*leaders must obey the law

*government must obey the law

*no one if above the law

also in some questions they have answers that have the exact meaning but, its just states differently, ex: ( Why do some states have more represntatices than other states? 1. because of states population -- 2. because they have more people...3. some states have more people...im sure that if they have the same meaning..why would i have to answer all of them haha ...=) but in some questions the answers do not have the same meaning..so i dont know if i have to pick one ..or all of them ..i really do not want to fail this haha and have to wait 60-90 days more =/

if somebody knows something about this i would appreciate if you could share your exp. thanks a lot =))))))))

Hi Jovana-Danijel,

I see that you are way more streesed for this exam than you should. First, the test is not an exact science, responses may differ from person to person. As long as you have the correct meaning of the answer you will do fine. Your interview and beleive it or not will be the easiest part of your immigration journey so if you are prepared enough you will do just fine. Now, to answer your first question, yes you only choose one answer. for eaxmple: What is the rule of law? I would answer: No one is above the law. for your second question, they do that to make it easy on people, in other words, they do not just want you to memorize word for word but just to have the right answer. Trust me you will do fine, just be yourself !!! I hope this will help you.

Hi Jovana-Danijel,

Congrats about getting an interview date (by the way, when did you get your interview letter..so I can update the list with that info too..thanks). Good luck with your interview this week on Dec 16!

In answer to your questions:

When they ask for one answer, they usually only want one answer

And if given the choice between two answers that pretty much mean the same thing (synonyms), pick the one that you most remember.

But remember the other one as a back-up, just in case...

Lol..Or better yet, come up with your own synonym...

After all, who remembers "word by word" what the answers are, as we're not robots after all!...

As long as they get gist of your answer, you should be ok there...

Hope this helps (and doesn't confuse you even further..lol...).

The bottom line: Know the meaning behind the answer, and remember to the best of your ability the answer that they mentioned in the study materials, but don't have to take things "word-by word".

P.S. As for my interview..I gave them more than one answer when asked questions with more than one answer, since I knew all the answers already, and it was easier for me to mention all the answers than to pick and choose which one they wanted. The immigration officer wrote all of my answers down though, and needless to say, they had a hard time keeping up with me when I mentioned everything...rofl...Nevertheless, I passed anyways....No penalty for me for giving more than one answer...lol....
