Hello All,

Had our interview in Mt. Laurel NJ today. Passed the test (Questions: Who is the father of our nation?; Name a war fought in the 1900's by the USA; Which month are federal elections held?; What is the length of term for a US Senator?; the other two I don't remember.....).

When we walked in at 10AM for our 10:20AM (my wife) and 10:40AM (my) interviews, PARKING LOT FOR ABSOLUTELY FULL because there was a morning oath ceremony going on. Everyone there was very very nice right from the beginning (one is not used to the INS/USCIS people being anything other than rude and this was indeed a very pleasant experience).

Also, it substantially appeared that even accompanying family members were allowed into the interview rooms!! (I saw at least 3 groups of 2+ people go into interview rooms for their naturalization interviews!)

I got called in at 10:15 and I figure my wife (who was also accompanied by our 2 year old) was called in immediately thereafter). After I was done with my interview, the IO was kind enough to escort me to the room where my wife was being interviewed where my wife's IO was busy offering my 2 year old a cookie!!

Both the IO's were particularly very nice :thumbs: . My IO was particularly funny and kept making a whole bunch of jokes. :thumbs:

With both my wife and I having name changes to process, had expected to wait for a judicial oath ceremony. Surprise of all.....at Mt. Laurel, NJ, their same day oath includes judicial oaths!! As soon as I was done with my interview, my IO goes "It appears you have basically already sacrificed your day for being part of this country - how about we make the most of it, and you come in and take your oath this afternoon?". I replied something like "but my wife is also being interviewed in some other room...." and he says he will make sure she is also going to get into the same oath ceremony!!!

Went back to the place at 3PM. There were about 40~50 people for the oath ceremony. After checking the minor paperwork (most were there for the same day oath) and the IO who had interviewed my wife was around jokingly asking if anyone had gotten married, got divorced, or had a kid between the time they had their interview and 2~3 hrs later!! He then did ask if anyone had gone out celebrating and gotten arrested, or had gotten a ticket. They let any and all accompanying family members into the ceremony room (standing room only crowd). Whoe ceremony was done by 4PM. Thus got sworn in as a USC this afternoon!!! I am now a US Citizen! :dance:

Vivekjay-Thanks for the congrats too...:)...Lol..I agree, it sure was a quick process for the N-400 for me! 75 days/ 2 and a half months, exactly, from beginning to end! Lol..definitely a lot quicker than the other stages of the immigration process for me (lol..especially for the I-751...290 days/10 months....and I only got to use the card for 5 months.....ridiculous!)....There are things that go quick, and things that go slow, in the immigration process....Good to end off on a quick note, indeed! Hope your citizenship journey is quick too!

Maryces21-Congratulations on passing your interview and thanks for sharing about that experience here on VJ. :thumbs: Sorry to hear that you had a not-so-nice immigration officer that interviewed you and gave you trouble, but regardless, it's good that you passed. Good luck with the rest of your immigration journey and hope that you get your oath date soon too.

Ok guys, I passed the test.

Now some details.

We arrived to the Immigration office at 8:15 am, I put my Interview letter on the interview box then 20 minutes later the Immigration officer called my name. I left my Husband in the waiting room. We went to a little office and then he asked me to raised my hand and swear a will say the true.

I sat in the chair and the first question he asked me was if that was my husband. I answer yes and then he asked me How was our marriage? I said perfect and then he said perfect? I told him with up and down, but most of them ups. Then he checked my name, birth date and country. Then asked me about my trips (just one). He was straight to the point he did not want explanations. He asked me about my taxes (we have an installament agreemment) he wanted to see copies from the IRS of Current status. I was nervous, he was not a nice person, just was there to do his job, not to make friends. At first I could not find the copy of my last letter form the IRS, and then he got mad, and told me I should be ready, he told me to take the papers off his desk. Finally!!!!! I found it. He then asked me other question yes and not. Asked me about my speeding ticket. He then asked me about My stepson, if I have adopted him. I told him not. Then he asked me to read. What do we pay to the goverment? And then told me to write "We pay Taxes". Then the questions;

What is freedom of religion?

When the constitution was written?

Named one state that borders Canada?

How many senators are?

and other two I do not remember. Everything was fast. I just answered.

Then he told me he was approving me, and make me signed in two places, the same with the pictures. He gave me a piece of paper that said i passed and told me to wait for the Oath Ceremony letter, amybe for next year. I lived in a really small city and they have ceremonies 4 times a year. The next will be in February or January. That it is. 15 or 20 minutes and we were on our way back home at 9 am.

Now I will have to wait for my oath letter. I will let you know when i get the letter.

Snj_immigrant-Congratulations on you and your wife passing the interviews and having a same day oath ceremony (wow, that was quick!) and thanks for sharing about that experience here on VJ. :thumbs: Aww...It's nice too, that they were able to accomodate both you and your wife on the same day, and that they gave your son a cookie too. Lol..funny that they asked those N-445 questions for what you did in the last 2 hours! Hmm..wonder what would have happened if you answered "yes" to any of those...just kidding. Good luck with the rest of your immigration journey too as a US Citizen and in getting your passport as well. See you on the vj passport thread list!

Whoo! Whoo! Finally got an email and txt msg notice this morning that my application has been sent for a standard interview!

Once I get the letter I'll update the list. Wow, from 10/7 fingerprints to 11/26+. Of course, I sent the last 4 full years of tax returns, my two divorce proofs, and other complicated stuff to pre-empt any questions (my driving record, etc). Maybe it was too much :)

Anyway, it looks like the interview letter is on the way!

Snj_immigrant-Congratulations on you and your wife passing the interviews and having a same day oath ceremony (wow, that was quick!) and thanks for sharing about that experience here on VJ. :thumbs: Aww...It's nice too, that they were able to accomodate both you and your wife on the same day, and that they gave your son a cookie too. Lol..funny that they asked those N-445 questions for what you did in the last 2 hours! Hmm..wonder what would have happened if you answered "yes" to any of those...just kidding. Whoo! Whoo! Finally got an email and txt msg notice this morning that my application has been sent for a standard interview!

Once I get the letter I'll update the list. Wow, from 10/7 fingerprints to 11/26+. Of course, I sent the last 4 full years of tax returns, my two divorce proofs, and other complicated stuff to pre-empt any questions (my driving record, etc). Maybe it was too much :)

Anyway, it looks like the interview letter is on the way!

I also received an email this morning saying that my interview letter was on the way; I guess some of the offices have much longer processing times than others. I am still hoping that I will get the interview and oath this calendar year, but with the holiday season upon us, I am not too confident. I guess I'd better start preparing for the civics test now.... just in case.

Dcooper-Thanks for the update. Hope you get your interview letter soon. My guess is that you'll get it sometime this week/next week. And yes, it looks like you sent enough of the required stuff there, which should be ok.

By the way, did I tell you that I'm not applying for a passport. Instead, I'm applying for the NYS Enhanced Driver's License, that is kind of like a passport. I just wanted to add that 'YES' they do allow walkin fingerprints at Jacksonville USCIS. I got them done on 27nov09.

The guards are pretty strict. I dont think the guards will allow you in, if you tell them you want to do a walkin fingerprint.

Official way will be to get in with an INFOPASS and then request the officer for walkin fingerprints.

Try for a time after 10:00AM. usually they are very busy early mornings. That translates to "NO WALKIN FINGERPRINTS IF THEY ARE BUSY!!!."

Overall it is a chance to be taken depending on your luck.
