Thanks a lot, Ant+D+A,

I am so happy to have found this online community. Eventhough I went through a lengthier process in obtaining my greencard, I still am as inpatient, nervous and anxious as then. My American family seem a bit bemused by my excitement. I feel quite lucky to go through such an experience since it makes me more aware and grateful of such a precious gift-American citizenship!

Jules67-You're welcome. Likewise, I'm happy to have found this online community of visa journey, and am glad to meet others that are going through the same process here too. It has certainly helped me a lot throughout the immigration process, indeed, to be in such an online community! And yes, the immigration process is sure nerve-racking, stressful, and anxious, so I can understand when you say such, as I feel the same way as well. But after all this, we are both almost at the end of the journey, and can finally appreciate getting American citizenship. Funny too, how a lot of natural-born Americans don't seem to understand what it takes to get such and become an American citizen. I guess it is not until one goes through the actual immigration process that they can appreciate this gift of American citizenship even more....lol....

Good luck with your journey too! We're almost there! And yes, let's keep track of our progress together here as well.

Brewie-Thanks for the update about you getting your yellow interview letter. Hmmm..I'm curious about such, as I never got such a letter (I only got the white letter and interview letter). Interesting too, that you would receive such, and that it said that it was a case file review notice, and it did not say when your interview date was. In your case, you will probably get a separate letter later on, which will state such a date and more about your interview there. Good too, that you were honest about the traffic ticket and disclosed of such, as they are going to find out anyways, and you might as well tell such now. In terms of how to get more info about that, if I were you, I would go to your local courthouse and/or police station, to see if they have documents regarding such, and that you paid such, and is not on your record. Don't worry, a lot of people get traffic tickets, so no big deal there, and I don't think that would affect your case, as long as you disclose of it. Odd too, that they would ask for your driver's license and tax returns and proof of residence on the yellow letter. Just make sure you bring such with you too to the interview, as indicated. if you don't mind me asking, what exactly did you submit with your N-400 application, and what exactly does the yellow letter say in its entirety? Can you post more about that here, too, so that we can help you more if need be? Thanks.

Good luck wtih the rest of your journey too.

Ant

I received a single yellow piece of paper from the USCIS today, at the top was "Case File Review Notice / Interview Document Check List". It is basically asking for additional information that I need to bring with me to the interview, although I am yet to receive any notification about when this interview will take place. Hopefully this letter is only a few days ahead of the interview notification... has anyone else received one of these and can give an idea of the timeline?

I got a traffic ticket a few years back, and I paid the fine and attended traffic school and thought no more of the matter. I did note the ticket on the N400 application form (honesty being the best policy and all that). However, one of the items that the USCIS wants me to locate is a certified copy of all arrest records and court dispositions. I am not sure how difficult this is going to be to obtain since I had no interaction with any legal body other than the cop that handed me the ticket, and I certainly didn't receive any copies of any documents other than the ticket itself. I kinda wish I hadn't mentioned anything on the application form as it seems I incriminated myself... the wording used was "You indicated in your application that you have been arrested"; at first I thought it was a mistake since I have never been arrested (it was only a citation), but I am sure that the USCIS uses standard wording. Anyone else had to provide this, and can give guidance on how to obtain the documentation?

The other information it is asking for is a copy of my state-issued driver's license (or state-issued photo ID card), IRS form 1722 or previous past three tax returns, and proof of residence (utility bills, mortgage payments, etc).

Ant+D+A,

Thanks for your response.

To be honest, I didn't submit many documents with the N400 application. I downloaded the N400 form and instructions from the website and followed those completely; however, I now see that in the "Guide to Naturalization" there is a document checklist near the back where it asks for some documents that I didn't submit, such as the tax information. Looking back, I did think it a little strange that I hadn't been requested to submit many documents, but I guess I had presumed (wrongly it appears) that since I had submitted all of this information in order to get my green card, that I didn't need to do it again. This error on my part is most likely the reason for the yellow letter.

I will wait and see if I get an interview letter soon and I will take all of the additional documents with me; I will also call to make sure that everything is ok as-is. The fact that they didn't send my application back to me suggests that they had sufficient information to process it, and I will just need to show the remaining documents at a later date. Hopefully this is a good sign.

Good luck to you too.

Brewie;

I did mention a ticket that I had 2 years ago. Some people say that you do not have to mention anything if is less that $500. I wanted to be honest and I check yes in my application. I wanted to be ready in case they ask for something , so before I sent my application. I went to the county court house and I requested for a certified letter that said that I did not have any case open and I did have a ticket, but it was paid and the case was closed. It just took 15 min for the clerk to make the letter and they charge me $10. I also went on-line to the county court records and got I case status of my ticket. "Case closed fine paid". I print a copy and I am taking that to the Interview, just in case. I kept a copy of the letter from the County court house, but I sent the original with my application.

About the taxes I request some trasnscripts and account status form the IRS (We owe some taxes and we are making payments, my husband is self employed), and they got home in a week.

Maryces21,

Thank you for your response. I did not have time today to call the county court house, but I will do so tomorrow. I appreciate your guidance.

As a side note to others, I did call the IRS and I asked them for Form 1722 which USCIS had requested I obtain and I was told that this form is now obsolete. You need to request your prior years tax transcripts, which was explained to me as just a copy of the tax returns that you have previously submitted. If you already have a copy of those, you may as well just use those instead.

I called the County Court House and was transferred to the criminal division (Felony and Misdemeanors) and they did a name search to locate the ticket. I explained what I needed to show the USCIS and they said I needed a "Statement of Charge and Disposition" which costs $6. I need to go in person to get this, but that shouldn't be an issue. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction Maryces21.

Brewie-No problem that you didn't submit any additional documents with your N-400 application, as on the application form itself, it does not say to submit any additional "joint marriage". documents (other than a copy of your green card, and other documents that refers to the questions on the application form that applies to everyone regardless). The form is somewhat a general form, more so catered to those who are applying under the general 5yr rule, and not the 3yr marriage rule. And I think that's probably why they sent you the additional yellow letter, to remind you that you need to submit more info, if you didn't submit much else before. So, not your fault there that you didn't know about the additional evidence, as really, its their fault for not indicating that extra info is required for the 3yr rule. As long as during the interview, you submit what is asked of you in the yellow letter, and other letters you get regarding the interview, then you should be fine there. And yes, they didn't reject your application, so more likely than not it is sufficient enough to process, along with the remaining documents they ask too.

Raleigh2009

Congrats!! Mine is just about 3 weeks so far, maybe another week for my interview. Good luck to all of us.

Thanks! Got my IL today with ID Dec. 7. Yellow letter is also included in the same envelope.

Raleigh2009-Congrats about getting your online status changed to interview. You should probably get the actual interview letter in the mail soon. Lol...now that you're here on the Sept 2009 list...want to join us too, even though you're an August filer?......

Yeah! My file date is Aug. 26, pretty close to September ^_^

I called USCIS today and they confirmed that my case is not being held back due to lack of evidence. They said that I am in the queue for an interview at my local office, but that a time/date has not yet been determined. I guess I will just sit and wait.

All,

Well just got this wonderful email from the USCIS this morning titled "This case has been sent for a standard interview" . I guess after it took them over a month to get my biometrics letter, this took them just a week after my walk in biometrics.

Hopefully should get my interview letter sometime next weekend then. It would be good to finally get this out of the way once and for all.

Hi All,

Do the interview letters come from the service center or the office fields? I am still waiting for the IL since 10-28 when I got the email notification that my case was transferred to the office field ( San Francisco). Any one?

Thanks,

The letters are sent from NSC, not local office. Have you checked your LUD online? My LUD was last changed on the day the letter was sent out. If your LUD is still changing, that probably means they are still working on your interview date. If it already stopped changing, that means the letter is on the way to your mail box.

JUST VENTING!!!

My case is in the USCIS Limbo for the time being!!! I'm so upset!!! I started my process on sept. 1st and there's even another member with a time frame that was really similar to mine until the fingerprinting date. I called the FBI and my file was sent to them and they sent back to USCIS on the same date of my fingerprinting appointment. So I called uscis customer service and they said a RFE would be sent out to me so my process could get back on track. A few days later (sept. 30th) I received an email from them stating that they made a mistake. Below is what they say:

The status of this service request is:

We apologize for the error on USCIS Case Status Online that states you were mailed an RFE notice requesting additional evidence on Form N-400, Application for Naturalization. This is a service error. The notice that was mailed out was your Biometric Appointment Notice with your local ASC which you may have already attended. Your application is currently pending and will be worked in the order it was received by USCIS. Again we apologize for the error and any inconvenience it may have caused you.

Since then, no news at all!!! NADA!! I applied for the Expedited Naturalization and they usually process this one within 2 weeks. And I'm still here waiting for this paper so I can finally reunite with my hubby...it's been 6 month already that I don't see him...just waiting and waiting!!! Sorry about the complaint, but I had to vent to somebody else other than him!!!

Hi Everyone,

Raleigh2009-Congratulations on getting your interview date and the yellow letter. Good luck with your interview coming up on Dec. 7. By the way, did they receive your file (NOA) in August or September? Lol..on that technicality, if that is the case, you're both a August and a September N-400 applicant, as you sent it in August in your records, but they got your file in September in their records....lol....

Thanks! Got my IL today with ID Dec. 7. Yellow letter is also included in the same envelope.

Yeah! My file date is Aug. 26, pretty close to September ^_^

Brewie-Interesting to know that you called the USCIS to follow up on your case, and that it wasn't held back because of lack of evidence at all. Not your fault there, that you did not know about the extra evidence beforehand, since it didn't say about such on the forms itself. So you definitely shouldn't be held back because of that. Good to know too, that you are in queue for an interview, and hope you get your interview letter and interview details soon too. And yes, do keep updated here on vj about your interview details too.

Onuche-Congratulations about getting the interview e-mail recently. Hope you get the interview letter soon after that, and my guess is that you will get that sometime this week and/or next week in the mail. So be on the lookout for that letter. And yes, it's good too, that they "made it up to you" for giving you an interview notice quickly, even though you had to wait longer for the biometrics. Lol..I guess going in-person to get that sorted out certainly did help you out here! Good to get that out of the way, and be eventually on the way of getting rid of the USCIS forever when you complete citizenship soon. You're almost at the end of the journey! And yes, do keep us updated here about your interview details too.

Hanhan-In answer to your question: My interview letter was postmarked from the NBC, in Lee's Summit, Missouri, as that is what it said on the envelope with the USCIS logo on the outside. However, on the interview letter itself, it said to contact my local office (Buffalo, NY), if I was unable to make it to my scheduled interview date, and to contact the mis-information line if I had any more problems. Before that, I got an e-mail and CRIS update too, saying that it has been transferred to my local office, but I guess that's probably generic for everyone, regardless of where their local office is. Hope this helps too. Good to know that you got the interview transfer e-mail, and based on that you'll probably get your interview letter soon in the mail too, within the next 1-2 weeks or so. And yes, do keep us updated here about your interview details too.

For more information as to what notices I received exactly, about my interview you can read more about it here:

Juli323-Sorry to hear that your case is in limbo now. Odd that they would put your case at that, indeed! And you would think since they were moving so quickly on N-400 cases, that something like this wouldn't happen to anyone. I guess not then. Maybe it has to do with the fact that you have applied for expedited naturalization? Lol..well, at least they admitted to such by email, about a mistake about sending the RFE twice. Inconvenient, indeed! If you don't hear from them soon, you can probably call the mis-information line, and/or schedule an infopass appointment to find out what is going on with your case. And if worse comes to worse, and the delay is way too long, definitely get your local senator, congressman, ombudsman, etc. involved. You should definitely get this al done so you can reunite with your hubby soon, and not have any problems travelling as a non-citizen. Hope you get your case sorted out and get your citizenship soon. And yes, do keep us updated here on vj as to what happens next in your case too (and by all means, feel free to vent....as that's what vj is for...lol....and we're all here to listen too!)

[Just adding my info....dcooper @ Boston]

Been a month today since I had my fingerprints done and haven't heard anything. My online status hasn't changed since 10/1/09. Starting to wonder what's up....last online status says RFE on Sept 29, which was my fingerprints letter (Apt for 10/17/09, but I walked in on 10/7/09).
