Let's hope everything goes smoothly from now on. For all of us.

Guys, I need your expert opinion on this.

I will be interviewing at Mumbai.

My husband and I both graduated college in May so he's currently not making enough income to sponsor me. So we asked my cousin who is a naturalized USC to joint sponsor and he agreed. My question is: is that going to be a problem? That he is my relative instead of my husband's. I didn't even think it'd be an issue till someone mentioned something in the CR1 boards. We'd have gone with his parents but my father-in-law is between jobs at the moment, and I understand that the joint sponsor must be employed. So we went with my cousin.

What do you think? Is this going to cause issues? I really don't want to have to look for another joint sponsor at this moment.

from my understanding a co-sponsor can be anyone, it doesn't even have to a relative and there is no harm if it is a relative. go back to the instruction for the i-864 and read for yourself, that is the ultimate solution

Yeah, I know it doesn't matter if he/she is or isn't a relative. I guess I'm asking whether it looks "bad" because our joint sponsor is MY relative, the intending immigrant, instead of my USC husband. Shouldn't matter, right. Cousin of mine is a naturalized USC and makes more than enough.

Logic tells me it's no big deal. However, I'm currently on panic mode, regarding everything.

Just out of academic interest, did you guys front-load your petitions or are you going to backload at the USEM stage? Is there any truth to this rumor that they sort of already make a judgement by the time it gets to the USEM?

Sort of like:

1) We're good to go.

2) Maybe-maybe not. Possibly 60-40.

3) No way in hell.

Resulting at the USEM stage interview questions such as basic ones like "What's your husband's name?" or date of birth, a little more probing questions so that the CO can make an informed decision about which way to swing in the second option and finally, in the third category, they just choose to *uck with the applicant at will and ask them stuff like the population of IL or your husband's crush in second grade.

I didn't send A LOT of stuff. The basics, three affidavits, 3 wedding pics, 3 non wedding pics, joint bank account statement, and the wedding invitation card.

MsSheka;;;;

They cant find your 130 , its lost somewhere in piles. and I can see my file right under yours. just give them a time , they will find it after christmas.

sorry for being sarcastic. dont know what to say...........................

MY NAME CHECK WAS STUCK FOR ALMOST 4 YEARS DURING NATURALIZATION , AND I HAD TO FILE WRIT OF MANDAMUS IN COURT, AND PAID LAWYER $3500.00. JUST TO MAKES THEM DO WHAT THEY SHOULD DO. CAN YOU IMGAINE WHAT THIS USCIS HAD AND STILL MAKING MY LIFE STOP.

If every thing went in timely matter i would have been living with my wife here with atleast 2 kids, way ahead , where i am right now.

If my name check gets stuck again during I130 process , then i dont know whats gonna happen to me and my wife, and my little baby angel, whom i havent seen yet in real life.

aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....

I think i'l just forget about my I130, and go to my baby girl and file her birth certificate application with us consulate and get her us passport.

i thought everything should be computerized now and should be all about checking on the computer with ease, plus a lot of USC's by birth also have extended wait time. I will not be surprised if naturalized citizen takes longer though if all the mentioned process is involved. it will only prove that cases are not processed as received because if they finish one before the other then everyone will have longer wait time without some being ahead of others with huge gaps like 2 months! It will make sense for them to work faster if they can process USC's faster than the rest that require additional step in processing, however they do not need to lie to us and let us feel that we have the same processing time, afterall the reason why they are putting us through the name checks and all other bullsh*t is because they want to keep us honest while they appear not to be. They can simply write on their website: processing time for USC by birth --- 2 months, Processing time for second category USC aka naturalized USC --- 5 months. Or better still by preferential treatment of beneficiary countries which at times appeared to be responsible for faster processing from my observation on this site. If such transparency exist, everyone will be happy by knowing their status and not expecting a phantom equality.

Friends i have this question in my mind. please correct me if im wrong.

citizen by birth filing for petition cr1/ir1 or 129F or whatever.

petition goes to the service center and then depends when its processed. 1 month 2 months or whatever,

NOW when naturalized citizen files for petition, his application reaches the service center.

they would enter that into system and order naturalized citizen's A file from storage ( missouri storage facility i think ) because when u become citizen your file is completed and sent out to storage

then your petition is set aside while they wait for your file to arrive. Now arrival of actual file also takes time, i dont know how long but i am sure since we are talking about uscis it takes quite some time. PLUS i dont think they will process your petition without your A file present. because its the file which started building up when you file for your green card and then so on. or previous petitions blah blah. your whole life is in the file.

when your A file arrives to requesting service center. your petition is merged into your A file and the gets in que to be processed.

i think naturalized citizen's petition may take longer.

LOLA's

everything IS computerized, but not when its about adjudicate a petition. when i went for my N400 interview, the officer had my file right infront of him and it had allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll those things which i filed with immigration, even those letter which i wrote to inquire about my case, plus inquiries from senator on my behalf.

I think Officer must have your file to make a decision.

OK maybe you are right, its all computerized, if it was ....i dont think it would take them 5 months to process i130.

My green card application which i have in my portfolio online, was touched and updated when i applied for naturalization. and to my surprise the same file was touched on oct 26th 2009. and yet my i130 have no touches. i think when my file was scanned to send to service center, OR when they scanned it after arriving at service center, my green card appplication got update touch. as i have read somewhere, anytime when your file or application is scanned to adjudicate or whatever reason your case gets updated.

so on that conclusion i think citizen by birth would take less time because he/she wont have a A file. and they will process the application on the merit of proofs which u send in with your petition. like birth certificate/ copy of passport etc.

if thats the case they can give me NOA2 on the I-129f until they locate it.... and i definately understand your position if my hubby was here my health would be a lot better i would not have to deal with BP and three kids by myself

Do you think if I become a fan of California Service Center on Facebook and leave fangirl messages, they will process my NOA2 faster?

Also, hubby MIGHT, might, be able to make to India sometime soon if he gets some time off.

omg! you guys are cracking me up    it is same here as well though but I just decide to forget USCIS and wait upon the lord. The whole process sucks, it takes time away from studying for me and gives me a lot of heart palpitions everytime my phone text message beeps. I cannot even describe what it does to my hubby and the non-progression of our lives i.e happy living, starting family e.t.c (it takes 5 years to naturalize and more time to file I-130) what is not suck about that? But looking at it from another perspective, in at most 6 months time everything will be over.

@sachinsky: i frontloaded my application because i got so much going on (story of my life) and I am heading for lagos embassy which has reputation for not checking whatever you bring to interview (though not in all cases). a lot of people frontload, some think it is good while some feel that it may slow processing thinking that a voluminous package will take time to decipher than a thin packet. What you have sent is good enough i think, it included a bit of everything and should be sufficient i suppose.

Well said, but I wonder why some USCs by birth takes longer just like the naturalized citizens. there seems to be a gray area, whatever it is, I feel that 5 months is too much to process the petitions too. That is like half a year and enough time to develop high blood pressure, depression and thoughts of suicide :bonk: :bonk: :bonk:

Hi, I called the IO to check on the status. The categorical response was "Currently it is taking 5 months to process I-130s". Your status is "in-process". This dashed any hopes of an early I-130 approval. I am making my plans to visit India to meet my spouse

Thanks
