I-693: Varicella Titre Test Instead of Vaccine? HELP!!

 Share

Okay, so new hubby is missing the Varicella vaccine on his DS-3025, as they didn't have it available in the UK. That's all we need ... but, he HAD the chicken pox as a child, so we're hoping a $50 blood titre test can prove he's had it, saving us a couple hundred for the two-dose series (I'm unemployed, so no insurance).

Has anyone done this? If so, how did you include this info in the I-693? Any advice is worth a million bucks to me at this point ... I've searched ALL over VJ for an answer, also searched the I-693 and DS-3025 thread. Thanks!

Hi Camie--

If he had chickenpox, the doctor at Knightsbridge would have written VH (Varicella History) in the column on the DS3025. I know that's how Nick's was done. I think it was written on his list from the NHS doctor. He just told the lady that his mum said he had chickenpox in 19xx and she took his word for it. So check and see if he has a VH first if he told them he had chickenpox. If it's on there and that's the only thing he's missing, then sending the DS3025 is enough.

Otherwise the proof from the titre test would be given to a Civil Surgeon along with any other shot records. The Civil Surgeon will write VH which means he's not required to get the vaccine. He gets a waiver due to a history of the disease. And the CS would fill in any other shot he's had and sign off on the I-693 form.

Timeline

while I was doing my I-693, I told the civil surgeon that I have had chicken pox when I was a child (as my mom told me) but when my blood test came out, it shown that I have weak chickenpox anti-body (or something like that)

so, doctor told me that I need a vaccine (he will not sign for me yet)

I got vaccine at health department for $98 (only first shot), He signed for me after prove of vaccine

I sent out the package after that

I don't have my 2nd shot yet because it need to be 4-8 weeks apart.

I wonder that do I need to complete the vaccine before interview date?? it should be good since the civil surgeon already sign for me? just don't want to waste another $98 if I don't need to

any thought?

You cannot include it on the I-693 ... the I-693 can only prepared and signed by a Civil Surgeon

I know this, I was asking what I would do with the new info, send it in the package along with a Civil Surgeon-completed I-693, or send it to the Civil Surgeon for him/her to sort it out on the I-693.

Thanks, Nich-Nick - I think I got the answer I needed!

YES!! For $85, John can have his Varicella shot! We decided to just have it done for a little more than it would cost for a titre (in case the titre shows weak antibodies). THANK YOU NUI for the Dept. of Health suggestion, I rang ours and they referred us to a great, low-cost clinic!!

For anyone living in Orange County, CA - esp. if you are a UK citizen dealing with this particular type of nightmare:

Clinica Medica Central

896 S. Harbor Blvd.

Anaheim, CA 92805

Corner of Harbor + Vermont

M-F / 9-6

Varicella Shot: $85 (non-insured, woo hoo!!)
