Greetings!

After port of entry, How long one rcvs the actual green card card by mail? My mom arrived last week and just wanted to know as to how long she can have the actual green card by mail and do we have to go to SSA and apply for ss card? and if so,does passport and birth certificate enough for ss card application?

.

Thanks,

Griffin

My husband came in on 30 July. His green card was shipped August 13th. But they sent it to my old address. So we still haven't got it yet. We went to get his driver's lic. but couldn't get it without a social. So we applied for the social on the 1st. It should take about 2 weeks to get it in the mail. All we used was his visa and a picture ID. Too easy~Originally we checked the box to automatically get a social but that didn't work out....

I would say it will take three weeks to a month till you get your GC.

Both my friend and I who entered the US on CR1/IR1 within this two months got our GC three weeks after POE.

If you marked the automatic SSN issuance on DS230, you don't necessarily have to apply for SSN.

The card should be mailed to you in a certain time.

However, you can go to a local SSA office and apply for one if you don't want to wait too long.

I have applied for mine 5 days after POE and got the card in a week.

You can check what you need at http://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/

My Parents just got their "Welcome to America" letter yesterday. so their Greencards should be here very soon.. They too checked the box on the DS230 but they have not recieved any SSN card. We went to the local SSA office and completed the SS5 form, they used their passport and their birth certificate and were told they should have their SSN within a few weeks. That was on Friday of last week.

Yeah, it's said that it usually takes 2 weeks to receive the welcome letter and another 2 weeks to receive the actual card.

BTW, someone on the forum said (can't find the original post, so maybe on another forum - been to too many ;) ) that once the applicant enters US, we can use USCIS's Case Status Service Online again to check the status of the green card. Is this the case?

Yes the reciept number on the Welcome letter allows you to check the status on USCIS website, I added both the numbers last night and the info says case papers received from POE and "Welcome Notice" sent, case is pending at the Texas service center. You should hear from us within the next 30 days...

Tay, did the London consulate stamp on your parents' passports? I've heard that this stamp on the passport together with the stamp that the immigration office puts on the passport at POE in US, both of them are on the same page and they together are treated as the temporary green card before the real one arrives. Is this the case?

Cool, thanks, griffin.

I assume that this "upon endorsement serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for one year" is stamped at the consulate and returned to the passport holder, right?

lucky,

at the bottom the photo , the visa page it has" upon endorsement serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residencefor one year.

The visa fills a whole page of the passport, looks just like the biographical page on the passport but it is the IR-5 visa, printed onto the passport page, The stamp that is given at the POE is just like anyother entry stamp but together they become a temp greencard (I-551) valid for 1 year.

My parents are still waiting for their SSN to arrive, They went to the SSA office over a week ago to find out if they had issued the numbers but they had no trace so they had to complete the SS5 form, they said it could take up to 8 weeks for them to get a SSN...

Just Checked the email account and we got a email from USCIS saying that "card production ordered" so my parents greencards should be here this coming week.
