Clarification Required

Hi,

I am an Indian and just got married to my USC fiance two weeks ago in Calcutta. My husband has returned to the U.S. and we're getting ready to send in the I-130 package in a day or two.

This is what the package contains -- are we missing out on anything important?

1. Check in the amount of $355.00 for processing fee.

2. Form I-130.

3. G-325A Biographic Information for Petitioner.

4. G-325A Biographic Information for Benificiary.

5. Copy of U.S. Spouse Driver's License.

6. Copy of the front and back-page of Beneficiary's Indian Passport.

7. Original Certificate Of Marriage.

8. Two (2) passport size photograph of Petitioner.

9. Two (2) passport size photograph of Beneficiary.

10. Copy of Petitioner's Birth Certificate.

11. Copy of Beneficiary's Birth Certificate.

12. Six (6) pictures as a secondary evidence of Bonafide Marriage.

13. Copy of U.S. Spouse's Passport.

14. Letter of Support from U.S. Spouse's Father.

15. Letter of Support from Beneficiary's Mother.

16. Letter of Support from Beneficiary's Uncle.

17. Bank account indicating joint account.

18. Wedding invitation card.

Also: I'm a little confused about the part after the I-130 is approved. Could someone please trace the steps for me? My husband is a recent college graduate and so he doesn't have sufficient income. My cousin, a USC as well, has agreed to joint sponsor. Now as I understand it, the NVC sends the I-864 to the petitioner? Is that barcoded? Does my cousin need a barcoded one as well or can he download it off the website? Are these forms mailed back to the NVC or do I keep them with me to take along to the interview at the embassy? What are the other forms that we have to fill? I'd like to get a headstart on the paperwork so that we can send out documents as soon as the NVC asks for them.

I'm a newbie and currently overwhelmed at the entire immigration process. I ask for your understanding and patience. Thank you in advance!

Remember that you typically don't get back the documents that you submit. So for things such as birth certificates, marraige certificates, etc. be sure that you obtain enough certified copies to get you through the whole process plus what you may need after you move to the US.

Most medicals expire after a certain time so getting one now is useless, plus many countires require the interview to be scheduled for the medical to take place

You can just send a copy of the marriage at this stage, and because you have a copy of your husband's passport, you don't need to send a copy of his D/L.

Just download the I-864 and start assembling the information.

Your husband must complete an I-864 as the primary sponsor. Your cousin will also complete an I-864.

Alright, I'll ask them to get on that then. I am a little confused about the bar-codes -- do the forms themselves have to be barcoded? Or does the NVC send barcoded cover-letters? Could somebody clear this confusion up for me?

And what needs to go with the DS 3032 and DS230? I just want to make sure I have complete packages ready to send out as soon as they are required as to avoid any delays. Sorry if I sound obsessive. What's an optimistic timeline? Am I looking at 3-4 months or 8 months to a year? I'll be filing from Mumbai or Delhi since I live in Calcutta.

Reading the guides and the short cuts I sent you will answer all your questions about the forms. It tells you exactly what the forms are and what needs to be sent with them and when.

FYI - YOU do not send in the petition, the US citizen sends the I-130 since it is he who is petitioning for his foreign wife.

Realistically - 6 - 8 months. Maybe it will be sooner but maybe it won't. Typically 6 - 8 months.
