Its especially hard as Oscar was the favorite, the outgoing cat who liked to be held.

We loved him a lot.

Oh no--I'm so sorry.

I am so sorry! That is very very quick and very unusual. I hope your vet is able to identify what happened. (F) (F) (F)

Saw the vet. Looks like Oscar's lungs were full of fluid, though the vet couldn't hear it when he listened to his chest yesterday.

Said it was obviously some sort of respiratory infection but the exact cause wasn't clear and that it was very unusual given his symptoms.

That's awful to hear. I'm so sorry. Sounds like Oscar had a good life with loving owners.

We're keeping a close watch on our other cat - she was very spooked this morning but seems OK now. The vet told us that depression is very common when cats lose a companion. When we both go to work tomorrow it will just be her in the house and I expect it will hit home for her.

She is a year older than Oscar was but we had them both from when they were kittens and they grew up together. Unfortunately Oscar was the dominant cat in the house, I think if anything he'd have found her death easier to deal with rather than her with his. This cat is very fragile unfortunately - extremely jumpy and nervy.
