It didn't really take all that long. I applied for my new SSN on tuesday, and got it Friday. Then I went to the DMV the following Monday and changed my DL and walked straight over to the bank. I am none to happy about replacing my passport though. We are newlyweds and I'm only working part time. I think we collectively have about 500 left in the bank after the AOS fee just came out. And we are still trying to move. We could cash out some of his stocks and transfer it here but we are saving that for a rainy day.

I don't think there's a deadline for changing your passport, it just needs to be done before you travel.

I think he would be adorable with your last name. ;)

Oh @ how short of a time it took.

Ouch @ how much money you two have left, when I think about how broke we are, I just think that there are ppl out there who couldn't afford to do what we did to get our SO here, so I guess we're lucky.

TIME TO REALLY RANT AND WORRY!

I didn't get6 any text or noa1 as yet and it's been a week since I sent it off, better yet they recieved it on wednesday.

So I went to go check the delivery status online and it says:

Your item was delivered at 3:06 PM on July 21, 2010 in CHICAGO, IL 60680 to MIXED INS . The item was signed for by D COLONNA.

I thought L.Box woud sign it, should I be worried? What should I do???

I wouldn't worry just yet - it took close to 2 weeks for us to get anything from USCIS about the AOS application - a week from mailing to NOA date and a few more days after that to get the actual NOA. For some reason it just takes longer to get the notification for AOS than the I-129F. I didn't check who signed for ours but I'm sure it's ok. Also we never got any texts or emails even though we included those forms with all 3 applications - didn't start getting notifications until after we got the NOA and put in the information manually into uscis.gov. Don't panic! :)

In my frenzy of worry, I didn't notice that INS meant immigration and naturalization services... So I'm not worried anymore. As long as it's in the right hands I'm ok, now cash the darn check already!

I posted in the July AOS forum and this was a reply I got:

"Its only been 5 days. Chill" :o

So I said :I'm gonna go ahead and ignore your comment. But then again, as a suggestion, if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything!

Let me see you "chill" when you're dealing with USCIS where anything is possible!

Maybe I took it personal but I just saw it as rude.

Had Chemo on Friday, so have been ill for the past few days.. difficult to get to computer. But.. we had a great surprise in the mail box on Saturday. Fuat's Green card arrived. Neither of us could believe it happened so fast. We are still waiting for the EAD card and that was approved weeks before the green card. I almost cried.

We've been through so much to get to this point.. and now.. here we are... and.. WE'RE DONE :) ( well at least for a few years).

Now that I have shared my news, time to go back and read all the posts about what's going on with Krystle. Hope it's not a problem.. just saw a bunch of posts.

Ohhhhhhhh

Ladies, before I even discussed marriage I decided I will either 1. keep my last name or 2. hyphenate(sp) it but G's last name is too long to add to mine, if I did, it would be krystle mccree-jenkinson AND if I go against what I really want, krystle jenkinson doesn't sound right to me

So my question is, how do I go about getting it changed, how much does it cost to change the name on my passport, driver's license, how do I get the name changed on all my accounts (and uh, I have ALOT of accounts) :bonk:

Have a great day everyone!

Most of it isn't that hard.. I did the Drivers License first, then SSA.. then Insurance, called all my utility places, etc. Credit cards and bank accounts. Haven't done the passport yet, but supposed to take a trip to Phillipines in October ( If I am allowed to travel yet), so will need to do that soon. Not sure how to do that.. all the other stuff was easy, just time consuming.

Personallyh, I like Kyrstle McRee -Jenkinson ... I opted not to hypenate and now I wish I had. But.. that would probably just start an argument over why we didn't do that way in the first place... Too much work to do it again now, but maybe I will later if I really decide I want to. Jennifer Andree-Yildiz.

Don't really like it.. but having a hard time forgetting to use "Andree" when I sign things :)

hey guys! how's everyone doing? Krystle - good luck with your name decision. I opted not to change mine. In ecuador it's not common to change the woman's name upon marriage so if it didn't mean much to my hubby then i was perfectly happy keeping my own name! :) it's possible that one day we might decide to change our names to be the same (whatever that might be) but for now i am very glad to have one less thing to have to worry about!

Oh ok, in Jamaica, its unheard of to not change the lastname, as a matter of fact my family think I'm nuts because I didn't change it yet :D

Congratulations Krystal!!

By the way, If all goes well we will be in NYC on August 13th. Have a family reunion, in Red Banks, New Jersey, August 11th - 15th and planning on taking the train into the city on the 13th. I doubt there would be enough time to try to get together, since the family schedule is kind of tight, but would love to actually try to meet you!!!!!

Kaya.. when are you coming to Virginia???? Do you ever visit your brother?

Fuat's nervous about this trip. He will be meeting my 11 aunts and uncles ( my dad is one of 12 kids) and my grandmother... and it will be a little overwhelming. But I think it will be fun.

Hope everyone is doing well.
