Question ! Why applying twice then ? My idea is getting married first and then applying for the SSN. This works ?

Jenn, best of luck ! (F)

Of course it works. I also applied after we got married but it will be on the family name I have on my I-94 form.

Since I changed my family name, I have to apply for another card. SSN will stay the same, the only thing you are changing is your identity card.

Just in case if you will change the family name... :star::whistle:

Feeling pretty well today, so thought I would check in and say hi.

Karen.. my chemo course is 6 stages ( One session every 3 weeks).. so I have 5 more to go. Then, maybe can get back to trying to live a normal life with my hubby :)

I'll check back with everyone soon.

Jenn

It's nice to see you around Jenn and hear how are you. (F)

You apply as soon as you get here just to have it, after you get married you can go and change your name or wait until you adjust your status to apply for another one that will not have the stamp that says "only for work purposes with a valid work permit" (or something like that)

But that's why you apply for 2 b/c the 1st one will have that stamp..

Thank you very much for answering. So, reasuming, to make sure : I don' t have to apply for the SSN before getting married. I can get married first and then apply for the SSN. Also, I don' t really need my SSN for anything. It doesn' t make sense to me why applying twice, though.

Thank you very much for answering, Ancica. Yes, I' ll take my husband' s to be family name. Is it wrong to not apply for SSN before getting married ? Why is everyone applying before, twice ?

Hope everyone is doing well. We filed for the SSN back in April and still nothing. Going to the office tomorrow to check on that. We are getting married on June 5th. I haven't had the time to check on anything in here. Signed up Joanna for English school here so we been sharing a car and been really busy since she arrived. Everything is going well with us :) I missed so much on here. Take care everybody.

Jenn take care of yourself hope everything goes well.

We applied last week. We asked the clerk behind the counter at the social security office if we should apply under the new family name or the maiden name. He said that he had to go by what was on the I-94. If he did try to process the application using the married name it could take along time. Seems like he was right as far as getting it quick. We applied 7 days ago and the card arrived in the mail today. Next we will get the drivers license :dance::thumbs:

We applied knowing that the card will not have the correct married name, but will arrive fast. The application for name change is also a fast process, so the clerk says. Trying to combine the name change and the initial application was what could have caused a delay in processing. Hope that helps.

Hi everyone!!

Jenn and Maggie I hope you're feeling great!!! BTW Maggie, I hope you're getting side view pics of you tummy every week to see how you're growing :star:

Kayla your big day is getting closer

As for myself, I need prayer. I'm so stressed and I still didn't get my monthly bill, even after I finished the course of meds. Living with my family is taking a huge toll on our relationship and we can't wait to break free and move out. But I have faith that it will be soon. In the meantime I'm trying to consolidate, apply to a university to get my BA and hopefully those 2 will keep me sane. I love my hubby but boy oh boy it takes a lot of patience

HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!

Krystle, I completely understand what you're talking about with the living situation. I love Mathew more than anything in this world, but living with my mom is driving me crazy and it's taking it's toll on us. I know we'll get through this and be just fine but right now I want to scream.

29 more days to go until the big day!!

I can't wait to see Maggie's baby bump pictures(and there better be some!).

Jenn I think about you every day and I hope and pray with everything in me that you make a speedy recovery.

Hi Everyone,

Happy Memorial Day! Tonight Fuat and I will go to Virginia Beach, so we can be in Norfolk early for our Boimetrics Appointment. It will be so nice to get out of this house. Sometimes I feel like such a prisoner. I am able to move around much easier now, but still have some pain from the surgery. Round # 1 of chemo went well and I am feeling pretty good as far as that goes. Just in time for the next round :) I didn't get too ill, though I had 3 days I could barely get out of bed... so I think I was pretty lucky. Hopefully the next round will be the same.

The hair is starting to come out a little :) My friend is taking me to the hair dresser today, so I can get my hair done ( one last time)... I want to surprise Fuat. I can barely comb it, most of the time, and just end up pulling it back after I wash it. The texture is changing and making it difficult to do much with.. so hoping the hair dresser can do somethign with it :) I would like to look nice for our night out at Virginia Beach :)

We didn't get a honeymoon.. so this is almost like it.. except I am still on "RESTRICTIONS" and can't really act like it's a honeymoon. That will come though.. as soon as I can I think we will go away somewhere.

Seb.. your wedding is soon.. CONGRATS!

Maggie.. can't wait to see pics of the "bump"... Krystle.. your time will come. Don't worry.. Kayla.. I think about you all the time and wonder how your wedding preparations are coming.

I see some people are still waiting for SSN?? Not sure why. Fuat had his 8 days after applying. I just changed my name on mine the other day and will have the new one soon too :)

It seems we are all going through a little stress with adjusting.. living with family, or dealing with life's little problems.. but when Fuat and I have a bad day we just try to remember all the good days and everything we did to be together... the stress will pass, the bad days will pass...

I hope you are all well. I am doing fine and will continue to get better.. and now that I am not so bedridden I hope to be on here more often.
