I'm going to wait another week or two before I take a test. It could just be all the stress we've been under because of the interview and now his visa(which has still not arrived), but I'm feeling a little different than I was before. It's hard to describe...but just different. I guess we'll know soon.

Good luck Maggie! I just know everything is going to work out and be there on time. I wish Canada Post was more reliable though.

I'm waiting too before I take a test, it's hard not knowing though...

OH, I HOPE HOPE HOPE everything works out alright for Maggie. I am getting stressed just reading about it.

Yes.. I am still here. I shut down my facebook, because I logged in the other day and a bunch of messages had been SENT from my account.. all written in Cyrillic Alphabet. I did not write them.....

A brief update... the "transition" from Turkey to the USA is not going as easily as we had hoped. I cannot imagine coming here if I had NEVER been out of my own country.. and going from one extreme culture to another. We'll be ok.. but it's been a rough two weeks and we keep having bad things happen... one minute we're happy and everything is fine.. and the next.. something happens that upsets him or me.. or both...

and we are having difficulties about my cat. He doesn't like animals living in the house.. she's a pampered baby and has NO claws at all, so I can't even let her outside. It's been a sore spot..truth is I don't want to have to choose between him and my "baby" of 15 years.. but I am not sure he can adjust to her.. not sure he can adjust to this country. So.. my waiting game has not ended... even with him here, we are still playing "wait and see"

But I don't want to make it all sound negative. It's not.. I just wish we could have one good day without a failed drivers test, or manager at work treating him like an idiot, or cat jumping on the counter in the kitchen and freaking him out, or homesickness, or anything.. just one day that goes well, with no issues, would be a blessing. We have a wonderful time together, but he needs a little less stress right now...

Jenn, just try to be patient and remember that everything is new to him. I'm sorry to hear that he's having a hard time adjusting. I don't really like cats and I can't imagine living with one so I can understand what he's feeling...

Why7 are you stressing about a failed drivers test? It's not that important until he gets a job and has to drive to work, slow down, you're going too fast I believe.

Ok, I have to ask, what's he doing at your job??? Even if he's there to visit, why is he interacting with your boss to the point that your boss has to opportunity to disrespect your fiance??

I hope it works out for you and you both remain happuy

I am on BC, but I also missed a couple of days worth of pills right before he surprise visited me. There's a 50/50 chance either way but I wont be taking any more of those pills until I find out if I am or not. And I'm not even letting out a peep to him about it until I know for sure either.

As bad as I want a baby, I don't know if I would say that right now is the perfect time. Mathew and I have ALWAYS been LD and I think we need some time together to just be married and together. Of course, if it turns out that I am we're going to love it and consider ourselves blessed because so many other people in this world can't have children but I would prefer to wait a bit.

But this anxiety is killing me!!!

I realllllly hope Maggie's interview goes better than mine ended up. With the weather in Rio, SDU (which is right next to the consulate) is closed, and the consulate is closed as well and is expected to be closed the remainder of the week (as this terrible weather is expected to continue until then). L's flight into SDU was cancelled of course, but mine into GIG was just "delayed" and I was able to talk my airline into giving me an open ended rebooking due to the weather.

Ney.. how is your daughter-in-law adjusting? I know she and Fuat come from similiar cultures, and hers is even more strict than his. Is she ok? Overwhelmed??? Surviving??

So far so good, but she is still in a daze with all of the traveling and the wedding planning. I had two sister-in-laws that came to America about 12 or 13 years ago and both of them told me on many occassions it takes around 2 years to really adjust to America and for the home sickness to subside. I have been warning her through this entire process that she will have horrid bouts of home sickness and want to give it all up and go home. I did this so she would be ready to experience all these feelings and would prepare herself to deal with them.

You really need to read some of the MENA posts and see different ways they have handled it. Keep Faut as busy as you can! Let him know that what he is feeling is normal and everyone that leaves thier family, hometown, and more so thier country experience it. Let him know that it will get better in time, and he is not alone in what he feels. If there is a group of Turkish people he can communicate with it may help. Be as supportive as possible no matter how hard it may seem at the time. Finds some stores near you where he can gain access to familar things. Last but not least continue to remind him how you feel about him and that you are there for him.

I'm sorry it is difficult but it is going to happen to some degree to each person that goes through this process.

frenzy, with the consulate canceling today's interviews and possibly tomorrow's, and the domestic airport (SDU) closing down canceling all of the flights toda and tomorrow (and the airline apparently canceling on Thursday), L couldn't make the interview at all. He just couldn't get to Rio. He could have met me in Sao Paulo, but AA was going to charge more than I could afford to put him on the plane to Rio (and even then, he was gonna miss his medical). The small handful of flights into the international airport (GIG) were *obscenely* expensive

jenn, i am so sorry things are rough right now. but everybody is right when they say we all have GOT to be patient, supportive, upbeat saints for a while. this is going to be super tough on our honeys. and absolutely we are all here for you and rooting for you! I know we're probably all going to have a bumpy road while we adjust to life together and especially while our loves adjust to life in the US. As Ney said - try to keep him busy. busy and productive is really good. And i think krystle gives good advice when she says to slow down. This is a lot for someone to go through. Make sure he gets lots of good sleep and eats well and feels really loved by you. you guys will get through this.

oh and on the facebook thing - did you perhaps give permissions to any applications recently on facebook? i think there are a couple dangerous ones that open you up to that kind of spamming. You may want to check that out.

on our end, we're doing well, it's only been a few days so the extreme homesickness hasn't kicked in yet. i'm super worried about when it does. i've tried to show him some of the wonderful things in our neighborhood, especially green spaces because I know that is something he will miss most. And he seems to be enjoying it. But there's nothing I can do to help with the missing of his kids and family, except encourage him to call them as much as he wants. They might get internet at home out there, so that would be awesome for jose luis (they could skype). We actually haven't gone into manhattan yet - just trying to take it easy. I think we will head out there next weekend. Also trying to feel out when he will be comfortable meeting friends. I don't want to overwhelm him. other than that, he's been amazing, cleaning some of my very dirty apartment spaces and cooking awesome dinners. I am so damn lucky to have him here with me. i try to keep that in mind every time i have to explain something for the third time and want to totally lose my patience!
