Is over! :dance::dance:

Yesterday, Amed went to take the citizenship test. I went to USCIS with him. When he finished, he came out with a piece of paper which said that he passed the test, and to come back in 30 minutes (!!) for the oath ceremony. He is now an American citizen!

We were floored. We thought we would have to wait weeks, if not months, for the ceremony.

Overall, we were very, very lucky, and I am counting our blessings. He applied for the visa in November 2005, and in August of 2009, he is a citizen.

I want to thank everyone for all of the encouragement and advice over the years. Ir would have been a lot more difficult to go through this process without this website!

4/15/06- Visa in hand!!!

4/21/06 Arrival in U.S.

5/11/06 Legal Marriage

11/4/06 Wedding

May 11, 2010 - text message stating application received

May 13, 2010 - NOA1 for AOS

May 17, 2010 - Biometrics letter rec'd

June 10, 2010 - Biometrics appt

August 03, 2010 - AOS @10:45 am - "conditional" approval pending corrected medical form by Civil Surgeon

Sept 8, 2010 - AOS Approved for 10 year Greencard!!!

Congratulations, Marissa! Wow, less than 4 years in total - not bad, USCIS.

When did you apply for citizenship? We've been dragging our feet on that - too sad to break our ties with USCIS. :P

June 11 05-Married George, civil ceremony in New York

May 30 08-Baby Joshua was born

Jan 15-Back to NY we go...

May 10-made decision not to go back overseas.

July 10-filed for divorce

Jan 11-Divorce final

July 11-1st trip to take Josh to see George

Mar 12-2nd trip to take Josh to see George

06/13/09 - received letter in regards to my inquiry to Customer Service - stating husband had recently missed biometric appointment (never received a notice in mail) - going to be rescheduled - letter dated 06/05/09

06/17/09 - received Notice for biometrics appointment - dated 06/12/09

06/26/09 - Biometrics Appointment - St. Albans, VT

08/20/09 - Received Interview Appointment Letter

10/05/09 - Interview - Albany, NY- PASSED

10/23/09 - Oath Ceremony - Fort Edward, NY

01/28/10 - applied for US Passport

02/19/10 - received back naturalization certificate

07/21/11 filed AOS off tourist visa

07/28/11 USCIS cashed check

07/30/11 Recieved NOA1 and Biometrics letter

08/24/2011 Biometrics

08/25/2011 RFE sent to us for some info we've already sent in

08/30/2011 sent in the rest of info USCIS asked for

09/13/2011 went to congressman's office to sign papers for expedite of work permit, due to financial hardship

09/15/2011 Work permit expedite approved!! He can finally find a job!

09/24/2011 work permit arrives

09/26/2011 Apply for social security number!

09/30/2011 Letter is sent for interview

11/07/2011 INTERVIEW!!!

Its 2012 and still no approval! Still waiting

01/27/2012 Letter sent stating that file was sent on for more review :(

We applied for citizenship in May of this year...I need to fill out my timeline for citizenship, which I'll try to do this week. All in all, it was much more speedy than I anticipated.

Jenn, it sounds like you have much more pressing matters to attend to right now than to worry about filling out more paperwork!

4/21/06 Arrival in U.S.

5/11/06 Legal Marriage

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive,and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.
