I am living with my husband in Cairo Egypt and have lived with him for the past 6 months. Very soon we will be filing the I-130 petition at the U.S. Embassy here in Cairo. I understand pretty much up until the I-130 petition is approved, after that I am very confused. Once this petition is approved what is the next steps? I know there is a packet 3 and packet 4 but I am not sure when my husband will receive these and what are in these packets? I will be going back to my home in the U.S. after the petition is approved because I have 3 small children back in the U.S. waiting for me and I will look for work and get a job before my husband comes to us in the U.S. So I am trying to help my husband out as much as possible with everything that needs to be done before I go home. Please if someone could help me I am so muh confused. Thanks so much.

Go here:

Page 2 and 3 on that link is basically what you get in packet 3. Packet 3 is instructions for getting your medical and a list of the documents you should begin to gather for your interview. The packet will also have the DS-230 form (which is not on the link above). By going to this page and looking up your embassy, you can actually start the medical process before getting packet 3. My husband actually did his medical the day before we filed the I-130 because we had this information and knew where to go and what the procedure was.

Page 4, the same, basically what you get in packet 4. Its your interview letter telling you when it is, what to bring, and what to expect.

By going to each of those pages, you can actually choose your embassy from the drop down menu and it will take you to the page specific to your embassy.

Packet three also includes a list of approved doctors. The Embassy in Cairo will not accept the medical from any doctor but from the approved list.

Make sure your resident stamps are up to date in your passport, and that they show your six months of continuous residency.

That is what the link above gives you, the list of approved panel physicians :) All you have to do is choose your embassy from the drop down menu and it gives you the name, address and phone number of approved physicians. It also gives you the procedures for getting your medical and x-ray based on the embassy you choose.
