Ummm you & your GF Luckystrike are "crying" about as well. However it's pointless & stupid to lump all anti-Bush or anti-Obama people into 2 groups... for every left wing nut doing or saying outrageous stuff there's a right wing nut doing the same thing. The extremists are just mirror images of one another.

You're missing an important distinction, actually more than one.

1. There was never a flurry of articles and stories about threats to Bush. Even Saddam's assassination plot of Bush Sr. is largely forgotten.

2. The Bush "threats" were on TV and movies (among other sources) not some individual carrying a homemade sign and toting gun as is the case for Obama (counting the phony "protestor")

3. Bush didn't hype the threats to his life for political advantage. Obama supporters desperately need to use anyone or anything to distract from his lackluster performance thus far. That's why we get the "daily threat to Obama" post.

OK I see your points, but my point is that the nut cases (both left & right) are separate groups from the mainstream Bush or Obama supporters. I denounce(d) any threats against Bush, either direct or implied. I don't think the same could be said about a number of people from the VJ Right concerning Obama... for example look at the numerous disgusting comments that were made when Kennedy died. If something happened to Obama I guarantee similarly disgusting comments would be made. However if something happened to Bush and even one offensive comment was made the VJ Right would go ape #######.

I've seen very little outrage at the Bush death threats from the Left since I've been here. At most you'll see a single sentence from one or two posters saying it would be a bad thing. Sen. Edward Kennedy wasn't murdered but I understand your point. I very much doubt the Left would be silent if Pres. Obama met a bad end as there are daily threads on the subject long before such a horrible incident.

The Right should be gleeful as Obama is becoming a lightning rod for political opposition, grass roots efforts and funding. As I've said before Viva Obama! This guy has done more to wake up the GOP and independents than Bush or McCain ever did.

Well the problem IMO is that Obama is awakening the far right & extremists, which are groups the GOP should be moving away from (not towards). However the underlying problem is the increasing polarization of the two parties, which fosters partisan politics and divisiveness. We are seeing the ugly side of a democratic system & if Obama fails all I see happening is a changing of the guard, but not a changing of the bitter feud b/w the democrats & republicans. I know this is but the only solution I see is the creation of a 3rd party, which would be comprised of moderate republicans & democrats & some independents. Probably won't happen but we need change (and I don't mean back to the republicans).

I've heard that line numerous times before as if by some miracle a sizable party can be formed that can appeal to the many with a unique platform. Their ideas get usually absorbed by the mainstream parties. A complete break with both the present parties at the same time would be unthinkable.

The only way I could foresee that happening would be a complete collapse of the economy and few willing to follow a discredited constitutional government. It would have be worse than Great Depression and Civil War combined.

Right, because even though there are many more than two parties already, the system has been 'molded' around the two controlling parties - they simply will not give up this control.

Exactly. Most states have laws that make it extremely hard for any party but the two majors to compete. In Texas a new party has to have a good percentage of the electorate that voted in the last major election sign a petition to allow that party to be listed. Many states do this. It is so the major parties can stay entrenched.

Also the major medias in the debates allowed only what they thought were viable candidates to appear and came up with arbitrary numbers that anyone had to follow. Then only a couple were allowed center stage and the questioners only asked the major (Or who THEY deemed the major) candidates to ask questions and the others were lucky to get to answer a couple of lesser questions. This happened at both Dems and Reps debates. In effect the major media choose who we were allowed to vote for. I saw the lesser candidates from both parties lambasted by the major media constantly.

The major parties usurp any new emerging party by adopting their platform. Like we saw when the Green party with Nader became larger and maybe even made it where Bush won by denying Gore some much needed electoral votes that could have swung the election his way. The Dems usurped their platform and now have made the Green party obsolete. We also saw what happened when the Reps usurped the Reform party platform and absorbed the voters. It will continue. At first both parties went after the illegal immigrants legalization but the Dems are in the forefront now with that issue. They see the many millions of new voters that this could bring in but have to tread lightly as many will balk of the rank and file.

Still I can say I did vote for a president but it wasn't for McCain or Obama. I found they were both the same after all. They both spend a lot and love huge deficits. They both love big government. They both love Federal intrusion into the common person lives.
