I have a question that may be silly--but--my husband got his medical done for his K3 (non-immigrant) and now we are most likely going for the CR1 (immigrant). Will he need another medical? He got a certified copy of his immunizations....please advise...thanks for your help.

See my post titled "CR1 Interview Problems" . Just a few hours ago my wife was denied her CR1 visa because the one thing she lacked was the medical exam that they took at her k3 visa appointment! Screw these jerks, they are such A-holes. They were so rude to her at the interview again, she is just crushed. If I were you I would take it again just to be safe, I believe the exam costs about 500-1000 dollars which sucks. Not sure what I'm going to do, I'll update my other post on how it goes...

Bunzarelli I am searching for such information, can you tell us about the others that did not need the medical exam and advise us further, thanks. I am searching through the forums but can't find any good data.

That is awful :( your poor wife!

In relation to the question posted, is it possible for you to ring someone at the consulate who will be interviewing you?

My consulate is really helpful, but I know that's sometimes not the case with other countries....

So sorry about your wife's denial, that is terrible. :(

To the OP; if your husband has not had his K3 interview yet and has the medical results still in hand he may be OK . Otherwise you might be wise to try to contact the consulate to see if they can give you guidance. Good luck and let us know what the outcome is. I am sure you are not the first to be it this position.

I am going to be calling them several times, it is never done with just one phone call. They are not helpful at all and very rude. You usually get someone who reads from a set amount of responses. If you ask to talk to someone else they say there is no one else... My wife is planning to make an appointment to get her medical exam tomorrow. Hopefully they wont require the x-ray since she is preganant.

$500-1000 for medical? It's just $100 in Moscow. But on the other hand, Moscow hotels are crazy expensive and we'll have to go to Moscow for 3-4 days to do the medical and then the interview.

She should be fine, they will NOT do the x-ray if she is pregnant. If she is early along make sure she tells them she is pregnant. Good luck and congrats to both of you on the pregnancy. :D

She just spoke with the hospital these bastards said that she has to take the X-ray, even if she is pregnant!!!!!!!!!!! They say the U.S. embassy won't except the report without this?! What abunch of SOB's, I tell you these people doing the visas are just so stupid and insensitive... Why did you say "they will NOT do th x-ray if she is pregnant" what can I provide to them to make sure this is the case? Thanks.

You can get a letter form a GP or family physican stating that the x-ray needs to be deferred due to pregnancy.

Good luck.

PS - having an x-ray is perfectly safe during a pregnancy. It will not cause damage to the woman or fetus

Is it safe to have X-rays while I'm pregnant?

Yes, X-rays are generally safe in pregnancy. If your doctor finds you need X-rays for a medical problem or injury, it's okay to have them. It's better for your baby that you be healthy.

Thanks Canadian_wife, that makes me feel better. We are extra concerned because due to a kidney problem she already had a cat scan on her abdomen a few days into the pregnancy and some medicine that was not pregnancy safe. I even told the doctor we think she is pregnant, but they said she wasn't... doctors I find are almost as bad as these immigration people a lot of times, rush you out of the office and don't think thoroughly of all the possibilities.

I will contact my OB doctor today and get this letter and also a letter saying she has to be back in the states to continue California state run tests. Sorry for my bluntness and bad manners, I am just so sick of working with these people. I called the Embassy and they told me that I need to call Tuesday (they day of her doctor appointment) between 10:30-12:00 because that is the time the immigrant visa section is open... i said it is an emergency as it involves the life of my baby and her appointment is on tuesday and can you help me now, and she said the same thing for the second time... at least she did not hang up on me though as I have come accustom to.

Also, I found this information on the Ankara Embassy website, basically it says all medical reports are expred after 6 months and if you don't get your visa by than you MAY be asked to get it again. See link for details, so those of you who have this same question, please check on the embassy website for such details if you are as unlucky as me:

http://turkey.usembassy.gov/medical_requirements.html

The phone automated system said that if you send the green form saying the missing information (medical report in my case), her passport, and the green form, then the visa will be issued with 5 days. For my K3 visa the same thing happened, they wanted more proof even though I gave them loads of it, and it took 1.5-2 weeks for the visa to come... Why did the person at the interview office than say it could take 2 months to 6 months for her visa to go through? Why are they so discouraging... do they treat everyone like this or are they just racist because my wife wears a head scarf (a lot of people in Turkey opress such people).

I highly doubt they are discriminating against your wife or her religious beliefs. I think they are generally cycnical people because of the amount of people who will lie to them (you are obviously not one of them) to get what they want. Have you ever hard the saying "you attract more bees with honey than with vinegar"?

The nicer you are to these people the more accomodating they will be. They are used to people yelling at them and threatening them.

Your 1st priority is your unborn child. You need to keep your wife calm and do what you need to do to protect the child. Getting upset is not going to help anything. The bottom line is you NEED to work with these people because they are the ones you need on your side right now. The more you work with them the more they'll work with you. Give them what they are asking for, be pleasant to them, you may find they want to help you more.

Good luck.

As canadian_wife stated it is generally safe, however in reality no amount of radiation is completely safe.

"Although the risk from diagnostic X-rays is low, experts often recommend that women postpone getting unnecessary X-rays until after giving birth. But if your doctor feels X-rays are needed for your particular medical situation, it should ease your mind to know that the amount of radiation your baby will receive will most likely be well within the safe range. If you do have an X-ray, make sure the technician knows you're pregnant so she can properly shield you." (http://www.babycenter.com/404_is-it-safe-to-get-an-x-ray-while-im-pregnant_9214.bc)

IMO a chest x-ray during pregnancy is not a medical emergency so I find it disturbing that the immigration process insists it be required. I would not have one done.

It is a personal decision but if you are concerned a deferral note from your MD should suffice. Good luck with everything.
