It takes 90 days after you apply for your EAD to obtain it. Until then, it is not legal for you to work for money. Many restaurant owners pay their employees in cash but it is also illegal for them to do that, as they are avoiding payment for their share of Social Security and unemployment insurance -- and also not taking taxes out of the employees' income as required by law.

If you apply for a job before deciding whether or not to work, it's not a good idea as you are not really being honest with an employer.

You might try volunteering somewhere, just to get out of the house and make friends.
