O snap...

I do find it funny looking up is now Simpson... I am reminded statisticians frequently watch out for something called Simpson's Paradox in results that seem to say one thing but in fact say something different when separated into more congruent parts (to compare results). I fear many folks should probably go back and read up on that.

For example. GDP PPP per capita quoted by Alien or Danno makes you think the average Joe here is doing extremely well. However, once you breakdown the stats into various categories, as I did, you see a exactly who is doing better; Who is internationally ranked higher; Whose quality of life surpasses the other.

I could have kept going with minimum wage comparisons, % of people living in poverty, percentage of people uninsured, lifespan, international likability etc etc. So I am either pulling all of these stats out of thin air, or when combined they paint a picture. Who is better? No. Who is doing something better? certianly

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

again, with years and years of data, you can not look at the most recent three months worth of data and create a trend from that - your sample size is too small. regarding the median property prices - http://www.dailyreckoning.com.au/australia...ble/2009/01/27/ - it seems as though australia is not just moderately or seriously unaffordable, but SEVERELY unafforable. with an average income of ~$38,000, (according to the IMF, world bank, and CIA factbook) there is no bank that is going to loan someone half a mil without some serious government tampering. $38k = $3167/month net, while a 30 year note on a $550k house is $2952/month @ 5%. that leaves $214 for everything else for the rest of the month. i am not convinced.

you are right about the unemployment rate. it's a good thing we passed the stimulus bill so that we can maintain a healthy 9.5%. thanks mr. prez.

and are you SERIOUSLY arguing FOR higher taxes??? you can keep that one. any why rip the rich? that's the goal of most people - as long as it's done legally. there's no crime against being successful.

i'll remind you again - you need good data and to avoid insulting everyone. your arguments will fall on deaf ears otherwise. i'm sure sydney and melbourne are beautiful, and i would love to visit, but that a pretty subjective debate. no one will ever convince another person that their home sucks.

and what visa class are you talking about? the vwp is open to ~20 countries. i'm not aware of any other type. if australia is our best bud, have they taken any detainees from guantanamo? that's what best friends do.....

Not sure we finished addressing this major issue.

Danno Danno Danno. No wonder the confederates lost. Why do you think houses are expensive to buy? Why do you think houses in the Outer Banks are expensive to buy?

A. They know people are dumb and will pay high prices anyway

B. Because they applied Republican business skills

C. Because they don't want Dannos moving there

D. Because of supply /demand - aka people want to live there; in many cases, due to the reasons posted above.

The only thing I wipe my butt with, is the confederate flag. Aka The losers flag

NIce try at deflection but I ain't taking the bait.

So tell me more about the housing problem back home..... come on be honest.

Minimum wage gets you closer to a house here than average wage will over there.

Home ownership is the prime measure of quality of life, why don't you post an example of what kind of house a person would expect to start out in...in one of those award winning Cities you go on about.

You realize someone on welfare over there actually receives more money than someone working a 40 hour week minimum wage job here. The audacity hey, something for nothing. Shoot em all right?

Every other country around the world is progressing while the US is being held back by people like you. Go to Asia or even Europe and look at their infrastructure, then come back here and tell me how awesome we are. At least the dems are trying to upgrade America, pushing for high speed trains and so on. I seriously don't know what your type is doing. As long as you have your shitty truck, all is good right? You refuse to invest any money in America, unless it goes to military. You guys need to travel more and get out of your county, let alone state or country; might actually learn something. Maybe take a trip to China and see what they are doing too. Maybe then you will realize how wrong your thinking is.

Instead of trying to work together to modernize America, you guys are talking ###### about the president. Then again, you had eight years and accomplished jack shiit. So what else are you going to talk about. I showed my brother a pic of the outer banks. First thing he noticed was the lack of side-walks. Hey we have big azz NC trrruuuucks on elevated suspension systems.

I know the repub mentality too well. How about assisting the person so they get back on their feat and then get straight into work? Pull up your bootstraps only works for the military, not real life. Repubs have left a good 50+ million in poverty with the f-ck em attitude. They don't want to work so who cares right? Wrong, as these guys could be productive tax paying consumers; Which means even more money for the country and yourself.

You cannot have it both ways. You either leave them to feed off the system or you invest in them and get them into work asap. I have seen both and prefer the proper welfare system any day. Remember I am on a six figure salary starting with 2. So your not talking to some hippie artist here. I have seen your unemployment offices and they look disgraceful. Australia's are modern and provide excellent service and facilities for the unemployed.

Dude I laugh we I see blue collar Americans talking it up like your rich. At least earn what my cousins who own bricklaying businesses and so on are earning; then come talk rich. For example, My cousin Paul has two houses [worth $600K each](renting one of them), beach house in Dromana, Vic [worth ~$750K], holiday house in Greece [$350K], two massive boats [$150K+ each], jets ski's, three cars HSV (600hp) [worth about $60K each]. If I called him right now and said I needed him, he could easily fly first class without blinking an eye at the cost; Yes a $24K ticket. Takes international holidays every six months and spends about $15K per trip. Yet you guys are acting as if your rich and wouldn't spit on the poor here. If my blue collar cousins came and saw how how you guys live, they would laugh in your faces. He's like 6 foot 3 and built like a tank. Every time I have gone out with him we have never spent less than $1K on drinks. Did I mention everything he owns is paid for?

Most of all, he is a die-hard left wing union guy. If he wasn't so big I'd argue with him, however, what can I say; the left wing party has served him well there. Provided him with a standard of living that your average American blue collar worker like Joe the Plumber couldn't dream of. Australia invested in him and he has returned the favor back 100 fold.

Preaching to who? You guys wouldn't listen if your life depended on it. It's not your style. Every single argument on guns and health care is baseless. All I am doing is catching out the BS. Using rea life experience and facts to rebut the "I heard" > "he said this" > "its gonna" ..

As I said, come post the day one of you guys are worth as much as a blue collar there. Then come tell me how much you want to spit on the poor. I have agreed with you guys on a lot of things. However, when it comes to health care, gun control and welfare, you guys are dead wrong.

You guys clearly toe the party line. Nothing else to it.

Bump,

Last time it was about Flags, this time about sidewalks.... come on deal with the issue.

How much is the average starter home in these award winning cities and do low income working people have a shot at one?

We can get back to "Pickup trucks" and other meaningful points of your later.
