According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

As I have said many times before, most other developed nations learn from one another. For example, Australia adopted Canada's GST, Canada and the UK adopted Australia's points based immigration system etc etc etc. The US is the only country I have ever studied that goes rogue and basically refuses to acknowledge let alone learn from others. There are people like the Dems here who try and realize the benefit of not reinventing the wheel but I know for a fact that Repubs are not interested. Then when challenged on this, I receive the same old stereotypical responses:

Why you hating America bla bla bla bla

Go back to where you came from etc etc etc

However, as stated earlier, conveniently repubs have no qualms with using a negative international example to make a point.

Are you suggesting I made up those statistics?

Nope, the award was "How to lie with the statistics".

I'll be darned, stats are no longer useful in proving a point. I guess someone's personal opinion is good enough for some here.

It's the equivalent of you stating Toyota is the most reliable vehicle; while I insist Ford is. Therefore, you proceed to make your point by using stats like quantifying warranty claims, reliability reports, sales figures, customer reviews etc proving how reliable Toyota is; yet I still refuse to acknowledge or accept them. Furthermore, continue with the I'm right you're wrong attitude. What would you say to yourself? oh well that is his opinion. No, you would think this guy is an idiot.

It not the statistics its the manner in which you use them.

A little to late for ford and gm to put quality into their cars. Their reputation is ruined and that takes decades to build up again.

As soon as GM and Ford start building and designing cars outside Michigan and using non-UAW labor, I may consider their cars. Until then, asian and euro cars all the way for me.

I'm as conservative as they come. I just don't fit the Republican model in the US. For example, expenditure on military should be reasonable and somewhere between 6 and 10 on the list of priorities for a nation. For repubs, Military is number 1., while number 2. is upholding high-power gun rights, and 3. being tax cuts for the mega rich; investing in America and creating jobs by means of investment is at the bottom of the party's list.

Rather than simply preaching about welfare being a band-aid, conservatives in AUS created jobs by investing in the country. So they put their money where their mouth is. End result, huge economic boom that has not stopped since 1988, the last recession. I am not talking about artificial job creation either but actually investing in the country. Sixteen years ago, the picture of the city I posted earlier, resembled a city out of Ohio; yet look at it now.

We did not agree with the policies of the left wing government and their artificial job creation programs; so we fixed it. We improved it by implementing the latest business practices in every sector of the government, eliminated inefficiency and waste, mandated that government workers meet performance standards and paid them accordingly of course. That is, paid them to perform. If you notice in the article I posted earlier, government employees actually took more home than those in the private industry. As a result, the government has the best and brightest working for them. It's not rocket science. It's also the same reason countries like Singapore pay their politicians nearly seven figure salaries. Being that you guys are Americans, you should know first hand: 1. You don't get something of quality for nothing 2. When you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

The other difference is that we strongly support providing people with the basics to get back on their feet; such as UHS, adequate and livable welfare payments, training, moving allowance, rent assistance etc. Yes they will pay people an allowance and cover travel cost for them to move to where the jobs are. Rather than pulling a repub and simply b-tching about them being bludgers (slackers), we implemented programs to get them into work and off their feet. While there is no time limit to be on welfare, you have certain things you need to do to qualify. Like attend training and apply for 15 jobs per fortnight. Repub attitude: F-ck em! They should pull up their boot straps.

O snap...

I do find it funny looking up is now Simpson... I am reminded statisticians frequently watch out for something called Simpson's Paradox in results that seem to say one thing but in fact say something different when separated into more congruent parts (to compare results). I fear many folks should probably go back and read up on that.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

No I actually meant I dont know about all that, I tend to drown out all of haza's chest pounding.

Ok I took a look at it and I came to the conclusion that you are just nit picking because your not a big fan of ALC. Haza wanted to use median aspect of it so that he could tell us once again how Australia is better than us. ALC threw in the Gross Domestic Product per Capita to maybe keep the chest pounding down.

ALC is good at defending herself I will let her do that but you have to admit that haza is surely a nominee if not the winner for the award.
