10 United States $ 47,000 2008 est.

26 Australia $ 38,100 2008 est.

Anyway, $47K considering 6.5 million alone lost their jobs since the crisis begun.

Also note why the government is so efficient there. I am sure you can put two and two together.

who cares? you're backing up your arguement with 1 quarter's worth of average weekly earnings? that's like watching the S&P drop a few days in a row and then selling everything.

there are countries ahead of the U.S. in terms of GDP per person, but they are small with highly specialized niche economies - no where near the size and complexity of ours. in terms of land area and population, the U.S. dominates. why? because for the most part, we're not held back. i say for the most part because something's gotta give with this government spending. statistically, this is a center-right nation that believes more in the abilities and talents of the individual than it does in the government's ability to provide.

as far as helping people goes, Americans give more to charities than any other country - http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19409188/ - twice as much as the next most charitable country according to the story. we don't need the government to tax us and then dish it out in the form of cash for clunkers or tarp I and II or other such programs.

all you've done is trash Americans, put up bogus facts, and then rip those individuals who've unraveled your arguments with actual data. this is the same thing that is on display at town halls across the country. Americans know that our system is not perfect, but, God forbid, if Australia gets hit by a major natural disaster, who are they going to look to first for help? spain? japan? don't kid yourself

Yeah me too, the truth of it is... if Australia were swallowed up by the ocean.... how long would it even be front page?

It's a cute little country but certainly not a player on the world stage.

Salaries don't fluctuate as does the S&P, so comparing the two is ridiculous and clearly illustrates the lack of economic and financial knowledge. Also known as grasping for straws while trying to make an idiotic argument. Furthermore, if that is not a good indication maybe I should move on to the median property price, which is close to $550K. Still doesn't do it? how about the 5.5% unemployment rate. Any good? How about the World Bank's and IMF's stance that Australia has been hit the least hardest due to sound economic policies and will come out ahead of most other nations post the crisis. Any good by your standards? I'll spare you the embarrassment and not look about Indianapolis median house price.

Not held back? Not only are they higher taxing than the US they are also much more regulated. Nominal GDP per capita. Ouch Australia, a country of 21 million, beats the US there too. The size of a country means squat. What counts is what you, as an individual, are earning. Those figures are skewed here anyway because you have a small percentage of mega rich who control the majority of wealth.

Unraveled with actual data? You guys and your responses are a dime a dozen. The guy quoted the CIA, hardly an avenue for economic information. My GDP figure is from the IMF.

I wouldn't start a pissing contest with me. Your in NC, hardly an economic powerhouse or state renowned for its intellectual know-how. More like a bunch of idiots driving stupid #### truuuucks everywhere. Lets go to any other developed country and ask them whether they have ever heard of NC or Indiana; then ask them the same question about Melbourne or Sydney. No offense but if you combined every city in the mid-west all the way to the south you couldn't catch up to those two cities even if you tried. Well Texas has a number of nice cities so I at least give them credit.

Sydney's population 4.5 Million

Melbourne's population 4.0 Million

Both highly regarded internationally and constantly ranked in the top 10 places for various international awards. To have to people from two nobody states get smart is quite laughable. These two cities could crush your entire states and spit them out.

PM me the second one of your states cities look like my home city

Maybe not to you but consider the billions we have in trade with China and other countries. Out of 179 countries their total GDP is ranked 15th in the world. Hey I am not trying to be rude by any stretch. I am just presenting the facts. It's not my fault some here have a hard time realizing that the dems and their proposals are actually working overseas. I'm a conservative so it kills me that Repubs or so freagin ignorant, naive, flat-earthed, and close minded here.

PS You also realize Australia is the only country to have their own unique and specific visa class to the US. Why? I would say, by any stretch, we are currently your best, closest and most trustworthy friend.

Yes Australia is a good friend. One of the reasons could be that most Aussies dont spend half there day pissing and moaning about how bad America is, like I said before I have nothing against Australia but I am getting tired of you telling everybody how great Australia is and how bad America is, enough already. Give constructive criticism a try.

You need to criticize the status quo to make progress. It only hit me recently why so many things are the way they are here. Because republicans refuse to accept reality. Same way regardless of what evidence, as in living proof, controlling guns have on violence, there are those who absolutely refuse to accept the positive effect something like Australia's recent gun control has; not banning but controlling. OT might be a bit of fun, however, when it comes to people's lives, this is no joke.

As I said earlier, an American is murdered by means of firearm every 56 minutes. Whereas, an Aussie is murdered every 7 days. So you tell me whose amendment is working better?

again, with years and years of data, you can not look at the most recent three months worth of data and create a trend from that - your sample size is too small. regarding the median property prices - http://www.dailyreckoning.com.au/australia...ble/2009/01/27/ - it seems as though australia is not just moderately or seriously unaffordable, but SEVERELY unafforable. with an average income of ~$38,000, (according to the IMF, world bank, and CIA factbook) there is no bank that is going to loan someone half a mil without some serious government tampering. $38k = $3167/month net, while a 30 year note on a $550k house is $2952/month @ 5%. that leaves $214 for everything else for the rest of the month. i am not convinced.

you are right about the unemployment rate. it's a good thing we passed the stimulus bill so that we can maintain a healthy 9.5%. thanks mr. prez.

and are you SERIOUSLY arguing FOR higher taxes??? you can keep that one. any why rip the rich? that's the goal of most people - as long as it's done legally. there's no crime against being successful.

i'll remind you again - you need good data and to avoid insulting everyone. your arguments will fall on deaf ears otherwise. i'm sure sydney and melbourne are beautiful, and i would love to visit, but that a pretty subjective debate. no one will ever convince another person that their home sucks.

and what visa class are you talking about? the vwp is open to ~20 countries. i'm not aware of any other type. if australia is our best bud, have they taken any detainees from guantanamo? that's what best friends do.....
