So Yoko and I have finally received our NOA2 and our journey has finally been sent to the NVC. This is an exciting time for us but we are still filled with so many questions.

1 - Once the NVC sends the info to the correct location in Japan how does the embassy contact us from there?

- Do they contact Yoko or me?

- Do they contact by mail (normal mail or UPS/FedEx) or by telephone?

2 - Who actually sets up the medical exam or is it appointed to Yoko?

3 - What are most of the exact questions Yoko will be asked during the interview?

** ??? ** If Yoko plans to move to a different apartment before her interview do I need to contact NVC or State Dept for changes ** or ** Does she need to contact someone?

All the questions you've asked are consulate-dependent to a greater or lesser extent.

  1. How the consulate sends the "Packet 3" info depends on the consulate. If they utilize e-mail, it'll probably go to you, as there's nowhere on the I-129F to record the beneficiary's e-mail address. If they use regular mail or a courier service, it'll go to the beneficiary's mailing address as reported on page 2 of the I-129F. If the beneficiary has moved, you or she should contact the consulate.
  2. The visa applicant (i.e., your fiancee) is responsible for arranging her medical exam.
  3. Varies by consulate.
I would suggest posting in the Embassy/Consulate forum and putting the specific consulate's name (Tokyo or Naha) in the subject so that others who've been through there before can offer you specific information based on their experiences.

Japan K-1 info: http://tokyo.usembassy.gov/e/visa/tvisa-niv-k.html

VisaJourney Tokyo consulate info: http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/inde...n&cty=Tokyo

Improved USCIS Form G-325A (Biographic Information)

Form field input font changed to allow entry of dates in the specified format and to provide more space for addresses and employment history. This is the 6/12/09 version of the form; the current version is 8/8/11, but previous versions are accepted per the USCIS forms page.

Hi there,

We just received our NOA2 also so not sure how much help I can be... Although, my fiancee did find a lot of the particulars about how she was to receive notification, how the medical process goes, police certificate, etc, by doing some research on her own. Since the process from NVC on is mostly the beneficiaries' responsibility, a lot of the information can easily be found from various Japanese sources, primarily on the US Embassy (Tokyo) website. Other info she has found by looking at Japanese language blogs, newsgroups, etc.

She is visiting me here in the states tomorrow :D so I am sure we will go over what we need to do going forward. Like I said, we are in the same stage as you, but I'll post any relevant info on VJ as we go. (Prolly in the June filers thread.)

Best of luck to you!

Regards,

Deryck

Your fiancee can visit the US while the I-129F is pending, but if you're going to do this, it pays to be prepared: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1visit

I thought she was unable to enter the US during any part of the Visa process...

dougiehossy:

Yeah, we were a little hesitant about her coming to visit me during the process, but ultimately decided to go ahead. There is nothing prohibiting your beneficiary from visiting the US during the visa application, however, the immigration officer at the POE is under no obligation to let them in (as is the case anytime a foreigner visits the US under the Visa Waiver Program, but rarely ever an issue.)

So, to prepare, I sent her a copy of our NOA1 letter to have in hand as proof of our K1 filing. Also, she obtained an Employment Verification letter from her boss, and a letter from her bank stating some of her assets in Japan. I asked her to make sure to wear our engagement ring while going through the POE, and to be completely honest regarding our relationship, and her intentions to visit me during this trip.

For all the worry beforehand, she had no issues making through immigration for her visit to me.

The immigration officer asked why she was visiting the US ("To visit my fiance"), where she intends to stay during her visit ("With my fiance."), how long she was staying ("1 week"), when does she plan to get married ("We are awaiting the approval of our K1 visa before making wedding plans"), and asked if she intended to return to Japan after her visit ("Yes.") After these short questions, the immigration officer congradulated her on our engagement and wished her a good stay. ;) As for the documents, the officer never asked to see any of them, however we were prepared just in case.

We had a wonderful time, but over so fast... Now she is on the flight home :crying: and we are preparing for the post-NOA2 process. Next time, I plan to visit her in Japan, so no worries there! :D

Best of luck to you and yours!

Regards,

Deryck

Okay, I just did all of this, so I can answer.

When the embassy gets your application from NVC, they send a letter to Yoko requesting her to send in form 230. I've never heard of them contacting by telephone, just actual mail and sometimes e-mail. She sends the 230, they get it, process it, and she gets an e-mail from them telling her that once she has her checklist documents (look on the US embassy in Japan's website under fiance visa, they have an actual checklist posted) that she can schedule an interview.

Because they will continue to contact Yoko for the rest of the process, she needs to contact the US embassy if she is changing addresses.

She has to set up her own medical exam. There is a list of approved doctors on the US embassy's website. She calls the nearest one and she gets her medical check. Be forewarned, the medical check takes at least two weeks to complete because they run a bunch of tests so don't wait until the last minute.

For most people, the Japanese consulate is ridiculously easy. As long as she can remember your name and birthday and can answer a few basic questions, she should be fine. However, they are a bit touchy if she's lived in America before or if your I-134 is not in order, so be prepared. Try looking under Reviews: Embassy/USCIS for the Japanese consulate reviews, people posted the questions they were asked there.

Come join us on the Japanese filers thread in the regional section of this board! There are lot of others who just completed this process and can probably give you better answers than I can. My case was more complicated than most and deviated from the usual process a bit, so some of this is just a reposting of what others were saying.
