My daughter is a college student and she had to be a "resident" of our state for one year before she was able to attend. Because I was a resident of our state for more than a year, and the fact that my daughter hadn't just moved here to attend school, she would have been able to go on those grounds as well.

She has Subsidized and Unsubsidzed Student Loans.

As I explained to the OP in a PM. There are tons of rules and regulations about this, it has been my part time job! :) Some schools have residency requirements of one year, some states have residency requirements. Some will waive the requirement IF you show you moved here for purposes other than attending college, others will not. Our state will NOT give student aid to someone here less than a year, regardless, we applied for a waiver and were denied. We had our best results speaking to the student aid department at the school she attends. I even had a 50% grant arranged in advance, she only had to come and show her visa and I-94 and SSN (she had her SSN the business day after arriving) It is a can of worms to be sure, but the rewards are great if you keep after it and explore all the possibilities

My fiancee wants to attend cosmetology school when she arrives. Can she apply for federal student loans/grants, or does this violate our affidavit of support? how about when she receives advance parole? is financial aid only for US citizens?

Thank you in advance

She will be fine. Normally every school out there has certain benefits for foreigners (special grants, etc.).

We are Looking forward to being married.

ATTENTION PLEASE- THIRD POSTING OF SAME QUESTION:

My wife became a conditional permanent resident after we married in June 2010. Her green card says category CF1. The card is due to expire in June 2012 when conditions must be lifted. Can she receive student loans before conditions are removed and for studies to begin in September 2011?
