Pay more than you owe.

I'm thinkin' you're nuts to pay more than you owe! :star:

Pepe,

If i would compare my husband's salary and our credit limit, we are not nuts on our present practice. I won't reveal our finances here.

I would be the one saying to you... you are nuts for not paying more than you owe. :star:

Why do you have to pay off ABC Bank $10,000 when your loan balance is only $9,000? You are indeed crazy or your head is full of hot air! You have a problem expressing what you mean to say. I guess you meant to convey "pay more than the minimum required"!

Where is ABC Bank?

wow thank you so much for your replies... It really helps my sanity and think more clearly what to do next. My husband and I argued last night but we are ok now... still not into cuddling and talking mood.

We decided to sit down and reduce our expenses

*i removed his data plan from his celphone which is $15 per month

*removed his $2.50 yahoo messenger plan

* I reduced my netflix to one at a time for $8 a month... it used to be $40 because we get 5 at a time

* we also removed our blu ray subscription $5 per month

I am planning to also remove my gps subscription in my celphone and just buy the real gps.

(we don't have cable subscription thats why we have netflix)

Next step maybe just hang our clothes instead of using the dryer. About our rent.. well can't really do anything til our lease expire in 2010 but my husband and I will try to negotiate with them. Maybe that would help.

He'll get his bonus this October it's not a lot but it helps, and i get paid 3x this October.

But i am pretty sure he will be reported to the collection agencies. If that happens, can we still continue paying the debts? Whats gonna happen after hes being reported?

Thank you so much! I never expected a lot of good suggestions!

Red Box rental DVD's for $1 for 24 hours.... so your $8 at Netflix is equivalent to 8 movies.

Sell your bluray dvd player on ebay so u'l have cash. Check out your junkies and turn it to $$$. Be smart.

All a good start and well done

but i would like to say

You are in serious debt so why do you have netflix, even for just 1 DVD? There are enough free services where you can watch TV programs online for nothing

What do you need a GPS for? Use mapquest or something simiular if you are going to travel

We don;t have cable at home and only watch stuff we download or can watch for free.

I think the person was just saying don't get pregnant as you'll end up in deeper debt! Nothing wrong suggesting that!

I think that is excellent point.

Right now is not the right time to bring a kid into the mix. My wife has about 10 Filipina friends that are all pregnant or just had babies.

I kinda know about it and thought that everybody has debts. I just didn't know that it will turn out like this. This is so bad. He told me mainly because of his travel to the Philippines to visit me. He visited me 5 times before I got here in the USA and we went back this year for his major dental problem but it didn't get fixed.

Is it my fault that he visited me many times thats why he owes too much? I didn't force him to.. although i liked it and enjoyed the company but i didnt think that in the future right now that I and him would be in deep debt.

Sorry that you are in such a predicament. Please dont think that it was because your husband visited you 5 times then it was your fault that he is indebted this much. It will just add to your misery.

To tell you, for 7 years now, my fiance visited me for the 11th times now here in the Philippines. His average stay in the Philippines every time he visits me is 3 months. He is a part time employee. He afforded the 11 trips to the Philippines because of proper financial planning. His priority is to make sure he saves, to pay the full amount due on his credit card upon due date and to use the credit card only if he has enough amount in his account to pay for it. (I do the same)

I maybe an Accountant by profession, but i can say he is far off better than me when it comes to financial recording and management. I am amazed at how he kept records of all his transactions. He even records how much we owe each other. He uses quicken while i just do the manual recording of my income and proposed budget. We stick to our budget.

We have talked about financial concerns and issues even during the first few months of our relationship.(by the way, we are not married yet but will be in 3 months) We opened our financial records to each other so as not to be caught unguarded when we are already married.

I know how focused and determined you are to work on your financial problems and how it has affected you. I suggest you prepare a working paper(excel format) which will show the financial effects of what you are suggesting and recommending to him. Sometimes, a concrete proof or report is better than verbal statement.

Lastly, a person who has a complete records of his financial resources and expenditures will have a basis in making a sound economic decision.

Good luck!!
