is my fiancee required to have a return ticket when she arrives? I have asked my travel agent, and I can not purchase a ticket that departs from her country. I can only get one that departs from here, and only use the return ticket.

thank you in advance

As far as I know she is not required to have one but having one isn't a problem...lots of people get round trip tickets when coming to the US because it's so much cheaper that way.

Round trip tickets are not required when traveling to the US on a K-1 visa - they're often cheaper than a one-way, but not required.

I'm not certain who is telling you to purchase a 2-way ticket, from the US and have your fiancé use the return portion - I can not imagine an airline will allow this. Are you sure you're saying it correctly? (you sure it's not purchase a r/t ticket and not use the return portion?)

I am a travel agent and worked for airlines. You can not buy a ticket where the first leg of the flight originates in the US and have only use the return flight. I the doesn't board on the US departure flight, then the entire ticket becomes invalid as what is called a 'no show'.

It also depends on the travel agency rules, not all travel agencies will book flights for you that don't originate in the US, however try some others. I worked for AAA and I know they don't, but it's just compnay policy and not a general rule.

You can buy a roundtrip ticket originating in her country and not use the return part, it usually cheaper. I did it myself and just called teh airline y=that I didn't want to use the return ticket. They won't reimburse you, but that is no problem.

If you have any questions let em know, maybe I can help.

WHOA!!!!!!!!! STOP

She is NOT required to have a round trip ticket. You MUST originate the flight in her country. If she does not take the first part of the flight they will cancel the ticket. You CAN buy a ticket originating in her country (or another country, Ukraine for example) Round trip flights are usually cheaper, so if that is the case, buy one. If one way is cheaper, do that. Some of the internet websites do not sell tickets originating in another country, that does not mean you cannot buy one...heck we do it often and did so for our son to come from his school in Moscow for the summer.

Got to one of the multiple listing websites, Orbitz, etc. Check all the prices. Find the best one. THEN go to the airline's website and buy direct from them, they will sell you a ticket originating from wherever they fly. For someone from Moldova, I would think your best deal will be to take a train to Kiev and then fly from Kiev. Ours were under $700 round trip for our summer trip and our son's, from Moscow, was $519!! Round trip. All on Aerosvit airlines and all purchased direct from Aerosvit's website. She is from an FSU country and can travel without visa to any other FSU country. There are diret flights to Kiev from JFK. She could also go to Odessa but this will add hundreds to the airfare and result in at least one layover, probably overnight in Prague or Munich or Istanbul. Better to train it to Kiev.

DO NOT buy a round trip originating here, I personally know one man that did that and when his fiancee got to Kiev her ticket had been cancelled! (Delta airlines) He had to buy another one way the day she left.
