Fiance just received her Visa last week for K-1 and also the sealed yellow packet.

What is this packet for? Is it for customs or for AOS when it comes to that?

Thanks!

Neither, it is for the immigration agents (passport control) at the POE

YMMV

Congratulations that the visa was issued!! :star: Best wishes for the rest of your journey. I hope it's not to long before the two of you are together.

The packet is given at the POE to the immigration officers. When your fiancee goes through US immigration, she will let them know she's activating her K-1 visa, and then they will ask her into secondary inspection, (not to worry, all normal) where they need to issue her 1-94 which is only good for 90 days. There she will hand over the packet, and they will send it to USCIS to await for your files for AOS. Depending on where she will be entering the US from, tell her to allow for extra time. I waited for almost an hour before my name was called, and the rest of the process took about 10 minutes.

But, do they still issue the stamp in the passport allowing the K-1 holder to work for 90 days, or until marriage?

Or is there expedited processing available?

thanks!

Question also for those here. We're waiting for her packet: interview was the other day and approved. The consulate took her foreign passport. How is this returned to her? Is it sent separate from the packet?

Thanks

im not totally sure for your country but when i had my interview in Australia i had to hand over a express post enveloped addressed to myself and the brown envelope and passports came back in that. i suspect its similar for every country! good luck on your journey. ohh and make sure that when your fiance packs her bags to come to the usa, make sure that the brown envelope is in her hand luggage and not in her checked in bags coz you dont get to them until u have passed thru POE!!!

Congrats on your K1! :) TimandJoyce gave a good explanation of how everything works from now on. I just wanted to add make sure she doesn't open it! It must be sealed from the consulate when it's handed over at the POE or they won't accept it (she'll have to make another appointment with the consulate, pay another fee, etc). We came across a land crossing from Canada (I flew up there and we drove down together) and it was about 45 minutes total at the POE, but there was almost no one crossing the border that day (it was on a Friday around 10am-ish). Try to get a flight that lands during non-peak hours if you have the option. Almost none of the POEs give the 90-day work stamp anymore. :( I happened to see the directions the guy was following when we crossed (he was new and it was his first K-1) and it specifically said NOT to give it. Hopefully your POE is more lenient!

See my timeline for my K-1 and AOS/EAD/AP details.
