Congrats to NCWife and Laura819!

Took my driving test today and I can gladly say I passed, it was a doddle, nowhere near as difficult as the UK one. Apparently looking in your mirrors isn't an requirement on the US driving test when you want to negotiate a junction!

Thanks y'all for the wishes... :star: and congrats to those who got approvals on EAD and AP... and congrats on your driving test, JimAndChristy

I hope to take my test as soon as we get the insurance thing figured out. Well, before all these hours of practice here, the last time I drove was 12 years ago when I passed my test back home. I actually hired an instructor to drive with me and to show me the test route and all, you know just to be prepared. I have driven with him about 8 hrs and he says I am a speeder! LOL.. Oh, so glad to know there won't be any parallel parking! Yay!!!

ILUVv, just read everything in the handbook and you will pass your written and sign test with flying colors!!

Cheers...

You're Telling me! I took it here in NC when still on K-1 so my license needs renewing now, not sure whether EAD will cover it or they want greencard... anyways...

The written and sign tests were on par with the UK, just a little easier (I was dissapointed that it stopped me before completing all of the 30 questions because I had enough to pass already). My driving test consisted of: Right turn out of DoT, left turn at next junction, railroad crossing, 3-point turn (allowed to use the grass, which in the UK would be an immediate fail if you even touch a curb), and back the way we came.

After I found out I had passed, noticing that my driving was nowhere near up to my own standards, I laughed-out-loud for a good while after leaving the DoT comparing it to the complexity of the UK driving test. :P

Much luck for approvals today!

To be honest it's a complete joke, I must have been away from the centre for only 10mins, did a drive around the block consisting of left, right turns and a three point turn. No reversing around a corner or into a parking space, I scored 97% on the road test and completed the written test with 5-6 questions to spare.

congrats jim and christy.. you are a road warrior now LOL

Thanks :) Oh good luck for some more approvals today!

I need to go for my written test soon (before the snow falls!) I feel like I've read the handbook but I haven't learned anything and seeing as I never drove in the UK, that makes me feel like maybe I'm not ready. I might just take the plunge, and if I fail, I re-read it.

My husband refuses to admit that it's so much easier over here, and when I tell him how it's true, he just keeps repeating "...yeah but your roads and towns are always so damn small".

Still no more touches, I guess I won't be getting the approval before Thanksgiving.

10 weeks and counting... come on USCIS!

I guess it is better to wait for your greencard to renew your license. I believe the expiration date on the license is based on your expiration date of your "legal presence" document. For me, my learner's permit's validity is less than a year because of my EAD. So, if you renew now, you may have to renew next year again. I am not sure but you can call up DMV and find out. Ugh, I hate DMV, the line is always so long! :(

Did you take your test in Charlotte?

Cheers....

Nope, a small town called Taylorsville about an hour north of Charlotte. I'm sure you could take your test up here aslong as you have an NC address. My wife says she took the exact same test 7 years ago.
