POE Detroit

Anyone here who has experience with Detroit as their POE? Please share your experience. My hubby's POE is detroit and he has 2 hrs of lay over. Just want to make sure that 2 hrs is enough for 1st time immigrant to pass through customs and immigration. Hope to hear your feedbacks!

Detroit has 3 POE's but I will assume DTW airport (midfield terminal)

It depends on the time of day and how busy the POE is at the time of processing... DTW is not an overly busy POE and they appear to have a "bubble" from 10AM until 2PM where the max time can be near 1hr.

To add, DTW is not at all difficult (Pras used it for her POE in 2006--albeit, that was also final destination, so no answer about wait-time adequacy).

may be i'm wrong but i don't think detroit is the poe. it's just the first stop where he'll change planes and won't deal with customs. his poe should be next destination... i assume chicago...

yes, you are wrong... when arriving in the USA... the first US airport you arrive at is your POE as ALL passengers clear customs... there is no such thing as an international transfer area at any US aiport

payxibka is right - the first place where the immigrant lands in the US is considered the POE unless they have actually gone through a pre-clearance facility before their arrival in the US. Further flights originating within the US are considered domestic flights and can only be taken after the person has cleared immigration.

yup u are wrong. my poe was in Detroit (dtw) it went reasonably well, though i was waiting for around 40 mins. personally 2 hours seems a bit short...... especially as when you get to the desk you might get a rookie like I did, lol. however I'm sure he will make his connection ok. i had some issue with my K1 being revalidated because my i129f was approved in september of last year and I only got my visa at the end of June 2009. dont worrry they do it right there at the desk so shouldn't be anything to be concerned about.
