Hey ladies!!!

Had a relly busy weekend, drove up to NY again.

Shopped til I dropped, found some really good deals on shoes for my son, got 4 pairs of shoes for $80!!

Took my friend to visit her father who has been in jail for 21 years!!!

Was really amazing being there. She last saw him when she was about 7 or 8.

He is in jail for manslaughter, but but his time got extended because he got in trouble in jail. He has been at the jail he is in now for 3 years, this was the SECOND time anyone visited him!!!

I guess I can hardly imagine being in jail, but it got really hard to imagine being in jail and no-one coming to see you :(

So, the messed up thing about the whole situation is that my friend lives in London, she goes back today. Her other sister lives in Jamaica, she goes back next week. Their other sister lives in NY, but she is here illegally so she's scared to show the prison her passport to use as ID to visit him :(

But at least now they can send him care packages and money to make his life that much easier.

The thing that really moved me was to see him bawling like a baby when we had to leave, was thinking of how tough he is, how hardened, and yet to see him there with tears running down his cheeks has to be one of the most moving things I ever saw.

Did think about the guy he killed though, and wondered how I'd feel if he was my family....

Wow JAE

Thanks for sharing that experience that is really sad, Jail will soften the most hardened of criminals. Unfortunately in my life I have had a lot of experience with visiting people that ended up in the penal system and it is sad how deeply it affects them when it comes to the loss of the family bond......

yes this is sad to hear. my son's father has been incarcerated for the last 17 years...I believe he may be getting out soon and he didn't kill anyone, but his case did make the local paper.

Going to lunch. Im going to the supermarket to get some soup... Anyone need anything?

My son’s father is incarcerated as well. He has been in jail since Da was 5 and he is about to be 13 now. He writes Da and calls from time to time. He is serving a life sentence. I’m not sure if its life life or 21 years life. Who knows. I have never taken Da to see him but the mother of his older son did. I never thought it effected Da shoot it never effected me but lately I think it has. I think he feels like his dad left him when actually he didn’t on purpose.

So Da, do you think a trip to see his Dad may help him..I mean even more than just a phone call? Here's hoping he's someplace local. I guess you also have to consider your son being so young and going into a prison.

so are you really not supposed to bring them back and just do it anyway or is it allowed?

I think when they are cooked / frozen you are okay to bring them back - not raw

Another reason for the oil. I never cook them...jus rub the oil if they asked me if they were boiled, mi jus say yes.

mi neva knoa...

Another thing about declaring things you bring back "if you not sure, DECLARE IT"...let them take it from you if it's not to be here, don't HIDE IT! The lady ahead of us had 10lbs of JERK PORK

interesting the things people bring back. i have never been too interested in bringing back food. never really thought about it to be honest. jamaican food tastes way better in jamaica than when you are here anyway...IMO.....maybe different from a jamaicans perspective. i have always filled my suitcases with artwork, carvings, handmade items...and of course rum cream....

tre, do you eat only jamaican food in your house?

wow, that is tough DaDa. I think he is old enough where you should take him. Better to be realistic and face the truth than pretend like his father is not a factor in his life. Your son will always have to accept who his father is. might actually be good for him...and you too.

I had frozen mangos without the seeds, 2lbs of pork and sugar cane without the knots in my carryon bag. I wrapped it all in about 8 plastic bags lol. I made it through but I was so scared I learned my lesson! lol Wont be trying that no more. Which makes me ask yall a question. I get stopped at customs EVERY TIME I come home. Im trying to figure out why. I do bring liquor (like 3 bottles of rum cream, 1 bottle of mango rum and one bottle of coconut rum) It usually cost about 70 bucks and it gets boxed up. One customs agent said its because of the liquor I get stopped...I asked them is it my hair? Its it the company I work for? What is it?

Afternoon Yardies!

Yesterday was pay day so I was too busy giving people their money to have time to reply. But yesterday's replies soon come.....

O.k. Off topic but did anyone watch Bridezillas yesterday? OMG I watched the one episode where the fluffy girl chat bout all men want her and she is every woman’s worst enemy? I mean tome she wasn’t even cute but I hate the way she spoke to her hubby to be. She really degrades and belittles him and she thought that was cute. Then she talked real bad to his groomsmen and then when the groomsmen took him outside to talk t o him about calming his FI down and telling her to watch how they talk to them he went to get her crying like a likkle bytach like baby they say you don’t respect me and he was in tears. His woman had to stand up for him and tell him they are just jealous of you and your one friend wants me. I was like is she for real?? It was so crazy.

Da,

I love that show. I dvr it. I wonder how any of thoe women actually get married..

DaDa's post got me watching the clips on-line & I can't believe women can act so bad! I was truly shocked.

Yes if i was one of those BM's I would have been like good luck to you! I was the exact opposite, if my BM or anyone asked me what I wanted I was like I don't care just pick what you like and go with it and everything turned out perfect.

I was pretty easy-going for the most part too. I didn't even know what my cake was going to be or look like until the day of the wedding. I just trusted my friend who put on the reception for me & everything was wonderful!

i had to stop watching that bridezilla show those chick made me sick

I agree, I was pretty appalled at the behavior & there were truly moments watching (although it was like a bad car wreck & you can't stop looking) those clips where my stomach felt queasy!

2 week countdown until the interview...

:dance::thumbs:

Morning Legz! I hope OAFJF takes off! You are doing and will do wonderful things for so many people! I really envy your drive and dedication! Good Luck (you don't need it) with EVERYTHING! I am sure we will all miss you here.

DITTO! I'll miss you but Cat just said it best.

I don't miss paying for phonecards at all.

Me either! Now the bill is WAY cheaper since he just calls his Mom about once a week & makes the occasional call to JA to check in & see whatagwaan a yaad.

Oh, I wish that was our long distance bill... :(

This is the one bill that kills me. It is soooooooo expensive to call St Lucia, calling card or not.

How much is it per minute Cat?

MS...tee I don't think it's the liquor, if that was the case they would be very busy. I had 12 small bottles of rum cream in my suitcases and 3 larger bottles I purchased at the airport. they never mentioned it. The only time I had problems with liquor was when I brought back 6 bottles of Trelawny rum. You're only allowed 3 bottles, so they told me next time don't do that or give someone 3 bottles to carry and I carry the other three. Rum cream is treated differently, can't remember what the told me. But it has something to do with the amount of alcohol that's in the product. They don't bother me much anymore when I come back, it's when I go to Jamaica I get harrased about frequent trips and is taken to another room for questioning. Since I got my resident stamp that hasn't happened. I don't let them bother me anymore.

Oh, girls.....you are going to love this. The gal who started stalking me on facebook over the weekend......I found out from 2 of my friends who went to grade school with her that she is like 6'5" and weighs what they said is near 400 lbs.

I am actually kind of scared of her now.

Like Finesse said, don't worry, you can easily outrun her!

Culture got denied Yardies

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...t&p=3271437

Why? I've never been to a club outside of Manhattan

It'####### or miss there, the sound can be bad - and drinks are like $15 for 1 shot of rum - poured in a thimble

Ahhh man, that really SUCKS! I'm so sorry Culture! If it is possible to get a decent job there, I'd look into moving if that was my situation. :crying:

Geez, I just love clubs with prices like that....NOT! There's one club here that has great reggae/dancehall on weekends but I don't like going because I have a problem with $8 drinks in tiny cups that are WEAK on top of everything else.

Wow JE! So is he in there for life? How did your friend get in contact with him after all these years?

He gets out in 4 years...She called her aunts who told her brusquely to go look on the internet....With prisoners in NY, you can go to a website and put in their name and it comes up with all their info.

One of the things that shocked me was to find out that the govt doesn't give them toothbrushes, soap and deorderant etc. They have to either buy it or people have to send it in to them. He said for years he's had to beg them from his friends in jail. Shoes he was wearing one of his friends asked his family to buy him.

I went to the store yesterday and bought him toothbrushes, soap, deoderant, socks undershirts and some t shirts and sent them priority mail.

My friend in London is going to send me money so I can send him money orders so he can buy stuff like cigarettes.

We have the same system here in Pa. It’s sad I was on the internet the other day looking up guys I haven’t heard from in a while. Past boyfriends etc and got darn it most of them are in jail. I guess I was a girl who only liked bad guys back in the day but here you can’t send those items to prisoners you have to send them money and they buy the stuff from commissary. The only thing you can send them are books and it has to be shipped from the store. That was so nice your friend reached out to him.

Wow so he gets out in 4 years??

From the last few days.....

Finally caught up......so much talkin today....feel sorry for MrsH wish i had some advice for her!

You know.. that's why this is SUCH an important website and why the Yardie thread is so important.

Would you believe that one of Steven's friends told him (even before we filed) that it's important to be very honest at the interview. If they ask you if you've ever smoked, just tell the truth & explain that you don't anymore. Imagine if that's the only advice we heard.

I thank God for directing me to this thread.... even if it has had a negative impact on my productivity at work.

Steven's friends don't know what the heck they're talking about! Good thing for the yardie thread....it is definitely invaluable. But yes, my productivity has suffered as well!

Suh Jengy, a tru di pickiney dem come or yuh lose di RUM mek yuh bawl a di airport???? :rofl

:rofl::rofl:

ALRIGHT MI NEED SOME POSITIVE INFO, ANYBODY MISS DEM PERIOD, ANYBODY GET A NOA2, ANYBODY GOT FLOWERS FROM THEIR HUBBY, ANYBODY GOT A RAISE, ANYBODY HAD ANY POSITIVE EXPERIENCE THIS WEEK??:dance::dance:

My hubby helped me clean the house real good on Sunday. He dusted places that haven't been dusted in so long I'm embarrassed to say just how long! I'm really loving that man these days!:luv:

ALRIGHT MI NEED SOME POSITIVE INFO, ANYBODY MISS DEM PERIOD, ANYBODY GET A NOA2, ANYBODY GOT FLOWERS FROM THEIR HUBBY, ANYBODY GOT A RAISE, ANYBODY HAD ANY POSITIVE EXPERIENCE THIS WEEK??:dance::dance:

Um... that would be one of the worst things ever, to me.

 You & me both Nat! Not ready!
