Thanks, guys.

I just got off the phone with the National Passport Information Center. Their records show that my certificate was mailed on 9/16 and she said that it usually takes about 1 week for it to arrive. Well, it's been more than a week already (almost 2 weeks now). She said that I should wait until Friday and if it hasn't arrived by then, call them back and they will report it to their mailing center and then go from there in order to locate it. She was very nice and willing to help, but my certificate is now officialy missing. I was kinda hoping they'd say that the certificate hasn't been mailed out yet or something to that effect. Now my anxiety level has risen and I'm back in the fretting mode, how fun!

We shall see, I guess.

Kathryn, I hope the second time around will go smoother for you, now that you've started all over again! At least you don't have to send in your certificate this time. Good luck to you and everyone else.

I suppose that having the passport sent with delivery confirmjation is at least some improvement over how USCIS does things, where they send green cards via regular first class mail with no delivery tracking or confirmation.

It seems to me that you should have the option of applying for a passport when you apply for naturalization. That way, if your N-400 is approved, USCIS would transmit your application directly to the State Department and you wouldn't have to part with their naturalization certificate in order to get your passport. USCIS coordinates with the National Visa Center for approved petitions. Why can't they coordinate with the passport agency for approved N-400 applicants who want a passport.

I will be attending my oath ceremony on September 30th so I have already started thinking about getting my passport book and updating the SS status. Therefore, I will be joining this thread soon. As for now I plan to apply for my passport on the same day i.e. Sept 30. I was wondering if it is possible to update the SS status on the same day. for SS, do they accept the copy or the the original certificate of naturalization.

Kikidough, I see from your timeline that you got both of the tasks ( passport & SS) done on the same day. :) How did you manage it? Did you go to SS office first?.....Also just want to make sure that we are supposed to send in our original certificate of naturalization along with the passport application..right?

After reading some posts around here, I am a bit apprehensive about it but anyways what can we do if it really is necessary..Good Luck to you all :) hope we will be done with this journey soon.

Hi Jess, I did the same thing, went outside and handed in my enrolment to vote (they had a table there) from there to ss office to change my status, he said it may take a week to get in the computer but took all the details and gave me a receipt, then on to the passport office to send in the application and wave wistfully goodbye to the certificate that was only a couple of hours old.

I got all the forms online and had them completed the day before, knowing that without the passport I'd be unable to travel outside the US again.

I got a call from the Passport Office today. They confirmed that they have canceled my passport and wanted to ensure that I am sending in the form to get it re-issued. I said yes, I had sent the form yesterday. She asked if by regular mail and yes, it was - I didn't think about using something faster, oh well - so as soon as they get it they will reissue my passport and deliver it by FedEx. I will need to sign for it - which suits me fine.

Good luck Kathryn on getting your passport.. sorry to hear that they somehow managed to lose the first one, at least you didn't have to re-send the naturalization certificate. Hello,

When we got back home from the oath ceremony, I went to the SS office and filled in the form, gave in my old SS card and showed my DL. She said it would be at least 4 weeks for the system to be updated. :blink:

Then I went to the passport application facility at my local library, did the paperwork, took the photos and handed in my new naturalization certificate (somewhat reluctantly!). :unsure:

Now it is a waiting game to get both my new SS card, passport and certificate back safely (nervous waiting...). :whistle:

I sent off my voters registration a couple of days after.

Have not heard back from anywhere yet... :unsure:

Daveh, wow that was real quick! :thumbs:

Hi all, my online status says:

Your passport application locator number is xxxxxxxxxxx.

We have finished processing your passport, and it has been mailed to you.

You paid for overnight delivery. This means you should receive your passport on or about 10/07/2009.

Congrats! :thumbs: Very fast service - mine is still being processed.... :unsure:
