Well, my passport itself still hasn't arrived. I just talked with customer service and apparently, it was mailed already on the 18th of September. I sure hope that they haven't lost the actual passport in the mail! All the tracking number says is it that they were notified for it to be picked up, no updates since - but then the tracking number for the passport card says the same thing and it has already arrived on the date they said it would - the 23rd.

Hope it comes soon!

*Groan*

This is the message on the USPS site when we enter the tracking number for my husband's passport:

Your item was forwarded to a different address on September 24, 2009 in BAYSIDE, NY 11361. This was because of forwarding instructions or because the address or ZIP Code on the label was incorrect.

We don't live in Bayside, NY. We haven't moved or asked our mail to be forwarded. So either the USPS messed up the tracking or the passport agency sent it to the wrong address. And I don't even want to think about the Naturalization Certificate, which hasn't arrived yet and which isn't even trackable.

Hubby called the Passport Call Center and they said they have the right address on file so hopefully it will arrive soon... Hopefully we'll have better luck than I did with my still-missing-in-action old passport.

*Gulp*

ugh....I really hope everything is found and delivered safely to you. :star:

I must say I find it rather ironic that the passport we paid $100 for arrives back by Priority Mail, while the naturalization certificate that we spent $675 to get is returned by regular First Class Mail.

Well, we needn't have worried - my husband's new passport arrived today! His Naturalization Certificate was also in today's mail.

Wow no more paperwork for a while!

Kathryn, I really hope you received your passport today. If not, maybe the Post Office can find it, since there's a tracking number?

Best of luck to all of you still waiting! :)

Well, my passport still hasn't arrived! I confirmed with the passport office that it was indeed mailed back to me by priority mail on September 18th. The passport card and the certificate of citizenship showed up as scheduled on the 23rd but the passport itself is still MIA. I have filed a complaint with USPS telling them they need to find this asap and I will be going in person to the local USPS office first thing Monday Morning to follow up on my complaint. We have had trouble with them before mis-delivering mail and it wasn't until after they admitted their error and realized they would have to reimburse us after an insurance claim was filed that they 'found' it and collected it back from where they had misdelivered it. It took getting the PostMistress involved though and I will do that again if I need to. You would think that with something this important and this sensitive they would take more care. Grrrrrr - I am thoroughly annoyed right now.

I have to say our mail carrier is superb. I told him yesterday that we had been expecting my wife's naturalization certificate back but it wasn't in yesterday's mail. Today, there was a knock on our front door about 11 AM. It was our mail carrier, hand delivering my wife's certificate. He told us he was worried it would have gotten bent had he just put it in our mailbox, so he figured he might as well deliver it in person. How cool is that?

Thaanks,

Yes that is nice about your mail carrier. I have to say our regular one is pretty good but there are sometimes others who do his route. My regular postal delivery carrier knows I am waiting for my passport as well.

Well, I thought (foolishly hoped?) we were done with waiting and checking timelines after citizenship ... Wrong. My naturalization certificate is kind of missing in action after applying for a passport, ugh!

I applied for both the passport book & card on 8/15, using regular service. I received the passport card on 9/18 and the passport book arrived the next day, 9/19. As of today though, more than a week later after receiving the passport, my certificate is still not back. I wouldn't have given it much thought since they do say that whatever citizenship evidence you might have sent in along with the application, is supposed to arrive in a separate mailing at a different time. However, looking through everyone's timeframes, it doesn't seem like it should take this long for the certificate to make its appearance ...

To add insult to injury, the application status on the DOS site still reads: "Your passport application is in the final processing stages. When you applied, you requested Routine Service. This means you should receive your passport on or about 09/21/2009." Well, that's obviously a bunch of hooey.

I suppose I'll have to start making some phone calls if Monday rolls by with no certificate in the mail?

Updating my husband's timeline on the list...

Kathryn and Babonsi, I hope you get some good news soon!

I understand the frustration, I've called the passport call center twice now about my old passport that went missing after my recent passport renewal, they just say that the records show it was mailed separately from the new passport but without a tracking number. They are putting a "request" to the agency to look into it. But one of the reps said they are backlogged and might not get to my case very soon. * sigh* At least I'm so relieved everything is resolved smoothly with my husband's documents.

we are also awaiting to receive the passport and the naturalization certificate although it appears few more weeks wait time is in store for us....

on a personal note, I agree that we shouldn't need to send in the original certificate in the first place after all the trouble and wait time to get that in our hands.

adding insult to the injury the passport agencies are sending the documents of such importance in ordinary mail  , I sure hope they come to their senses and start thinking of sending in registered mail with a signature required for both the passport and the certificate. Hey why not send them in the same envelope, what is the problem here  .....

anyhow venting out my frustration with yet another government procedure, thanks for listening...... :innocent:

we are praying about our application and hoping we get both docs in our hands soon

cheers

Well, I have just visited the post office - and they are next to useless. Even though the passport office shows that they delivered the passport to the Post Office on September 18 and the Passport office shows they picked up 12,000 documents from the passport office on September 18th - that is the last anyone has seen (or admitted to seeing!) my passport. So I have just talked to the passport office again - and they are filing an investigation into the non-delivery of my passport and I have had to cancel that passport since it has been missing now for 10 days. They said to fill out and file Form DS-86 - "Non Receipt of US Passport" and when they get that they will re-issue me a new passport, but in the meantime the existing passport has been cancelled and they are trying to see if they can get the post office to locate it. So, more waiting. At least if there is an emergency back in Canada I can still book a flight to the closest US border city, rent a car and drive 6 hours to get to my family in Canada!

babonsi - I sure hope your certificate shows up. The USPS is proving themselves to be dangerously unreliable with identity sensitive documents. Definitely file a complaint with USPS - I did - and phone the Department of State at (877) 487-2778. Press '0' to end up speaking with a representative and see if they can also launch some sort of an investigation for your missing certificate.

Live by Faith - the reason they send the certificate, passports and passport cards separately is that they all mailed back from different locations - at least that is what the passport office told me when I called. The citizenship certificates are mailed back from the National Passport Center at 31 Rochester avenue, Portsmouth, NH 03801-2900; the passport card was also mailed from New Hampshire, but the passport is coming from somewhere in Alabama or Arkansas - I don't remember which facility they said except that it was a southern "A" state.
