We're just starting the K1 process and I had a question about the Shot Records. Looks like my fiancee has all of her shots but one, the HPV. So she called her insurance, and they will not cover this shot. They wanted like 500 Euros for the whole series.

Question is.... Does she need to start this shot or have it completed by the time she does the Medical Exam? Or can she do it in the States? I'm in the military and I'm pretty sure they will cover this one at no charge.

$500 EU..wow!

I'm pretty certain (not 100% though) it can be completed in the US.

Ya 500 Euro... I'd rather go with FREE or even what it costs in the US. I hear it's around $350 in the States.

I emailed the Embassy's little helpline before I posted. I guess I'll find out what they say sometime next week.

Thanks for the link, the Frankfurt Embassy's site didn't come out and say that. They should update their site, haha.

Anyone else out there actually skip a few shots before actually arriving in the States???

WOW! I can't wait until WE have free heathcare!

Yes, immunizations can be completed in the US. She does not need the HPV unless she is under age 27...in case that matters to you.

I have "free" (Aka tax paid) healthcare and I still have to pay 130 dollars a shot for HPV.

So, my healthcare doesn't seem so "free" anymore.

nice

Government run anything has always failed.

We were wondering about the shots too... The Medic that does the examination for the embassy said that what she does not have they can give her then or just start it for her and then finish it in USA.

Thanks for all the replies. She is under 27, so looks like she will need the shot. I have the list of everything she needs and the age groups that it applies to.

I was wondering if the Frankfurt medical exam would give her any shots... Would that be included in the price of the exam or is that extra? My feeling is that it will be extra, haha.

FWIW, a K-1 visa has NO vaccination requirements.... (though some consulates seem not to understand this).... the requirement is actually for AOS...

Vaccinations are rarely included in the exam fee....

YMMV

Well, I heard back from the Embassy today. Turns out they like to give vague information. They say the shots are "strongly advised" which doesn't mean mandatory to me. So I replied back and asked them to clarify that. They didnt fully answer my original question. My question was if she could get the shots in the States...

Typical government answer to a simple question!

"Dear Sir:

As to Citizenship and Immigration Services every K1 visa applicant is strongly advised to receive all required vaccinations.

Is your fiancée a German citizen? In that case the vaccination fee is not correct.

With regards,

US Consulate General

Immigrant Visa Unit"

In a round about way they did... reading between the lines they indicate that they do not require all vaccinations for visa issuance, but you are strongly advised to receive them as they will be needed come later... you can decide the when.....

YMMV
