Hello all;

My point of entry was in Maine , on July 19 th ,2009. It was not pleasant at all. They fingerprinted me 3 times. They were confuse. The main border guard, named "Catlett"was helping them with the paper work. It took 30 minutes. Anyway, the reason I am writing is because, Catlett told me I had only one year to removed conditions { CR-1}. I got my passport stamped for, entry July 19,2009, July 18,2010. In about 3 weeks from that date, I received in the mail the permanent resident card, dated for expires on July 19,2011. What do I do? Catlett told me I had to removed conditions 90 days to the date which is July 18,2010? I tried to called the number I was given with the card, but it is so confusing. I got my social insurance number by getting it myself. Getting my drivers license is in the work, have to take a written test and driving test. I am so tired of the unclarity of US immigrants info. I am so tired of needing info. It was so easy to change my address with the Canadian Gov. I mean you get to speak with a live person. lol! I also explain to the border guard that I have been married over two years, he replied "so what". It's still only one year. Somebody please direct me to the right resources . I am in Missouri.

You remove conditions no sooner than 90-days before the expiration date on your card.

Bur brother Otto; shouldn't she have been given a 10 year card in the first place, being married for over 2 years?

Marie.

How long have you been married Marie? If you've been married under two years, then you will have gotten a 2 year GC, like you have, with an expiry date of July 19, 2011, just like you got. Yes, you will have to remove conditions and apply for that removal no sooner than 90 days prior to it's expiration. It doesn't matter what Catlett said. The stamp he put in your passport, was for the date you entered. Whereabouts or what does it say anything about July 18, 2010? Did he put an I-551 in your passport or something? I had that in my passport, but the American immigration officials put that in my passport so that I could travel outside of the country until I got my GC. They dated it for one year from issuance. They may have put that in your passport so that you could travel back and forth (especially since Calett may have not known what he was doing!)between Canada and the U.S. until you got your GC...which you have now.

So you're in Missouri, you have your GC, you have your SSN, you can go get your license now. Yes, you have to do a written AND road test...sorry, that's the law here. (I'm in St. Louis).

If you've been married MORE than 2 years, then you'll be needing a 10 year GC and that will be another issue in itself...so come back and see if what I wrote makes any sense and if that's seems to be what's in your passport, then we can advise further.

Marie you have come to the right forum to ask such questions; let me try and explain it to you. Your last point was that you are married for more than 2 years? You should have received IR, not CR1. Even if you received CR1 the time to remove conditions are 90 days from the expired date on your green card. It sounds to me that the Border-guards were very confused about your case. Try and get intouch with the relevant authorities to correct your CR1 to an IR first.

You know Jamaican JNR... I read Marie's posting twice and never saw that last line until you pointed it out! :blink: Thanks for saying your last point...because then I re-read it again. Duh! You're right...she should have received an IR, and not a CR1. I wonder what she even has in her passport now!

I agree, she has to get this changed...her GC from a 2 year to 10 year.

Thank you for pointing this out to me. I read earlier comments as well from Karin & Otto and Len, and couldn't figure out where they were getting that she was married more than 2 years...

I even had 5 cups of coffee before replying! :wacko::lol:
