My CPA is driving me nuts

On the letter I received with my appointment date for the test/interview, I am asked to bring tax transcripts for three years. Perhaps everyone gets this request but in my case, there is a slight screw-up.

First of all, the latest tax transcript (2008) is fine so absolutely no problem there. The issue lies with my 2006 and 2007 transcripts. For some inexplicable reason, my CPA used by Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN) instead of my SSN when filing our joint returns. After I caught it, the CPA did not exactly bend over backwards to correct it (took him well over a year) but eventually the IRS told him it was corrected. When I recently requested the long version of those two transcripts again through the IRS hotline, the SIN still shows. Agh!!! The IRS did attach sort of a vague letter saying tax transcripts do not show any changes made once a return is filed.

Anyhoo, so I just contacted the CPA again and he sends me "official" tax transcripts for the two years in question. Apparently CPA's use an IRS system that allows them to download all kinds of client stuff. Somehow he was able to obtain them with my correct SSN displayed. Here's the problem--these latest ones are abbreviated (only two pages) and say Account Transcript at the top instead of Tax Return Transcript.

Am I sweating something that I shouldn't be? I'm getting the CPA to write a letter saying he screwed up but I'm not sure what else I can do. BTW, this wasn't a problem during the ROC phase at all. I submitted the incorrect transcripts with a note and received no RFE's.

Thoughts? Thanks.

Actually, what I would do is attach the account Transcript to the tax returns showing the SIN instead of the SSN and handing them in together along with the letter from the accountant stating that he made an error and originally filed the returns with the incorrect SSN but that they have been now been corrected. What USCIS is more concerned about is seeing that they are joint returns listing you as married and showing that you have no outstanding income tax owing. I honestly don't think it will be a problem.

Good luck.

Thanks, you're right of course, . Sometimes I think I lose all perspective when it comes to this process. You read some horror stories (yeah and some of them are mine!) and start to imagine getting an Interviewer From Hell and things spiralling out-of-control downwards. I believe part of my worry was my aggravation with the CPA who didn't see any immediate need to fix something that was very important to me.

Deep breath......I'll be fine. Thanks again.
