Mark I read that on the DOS website but USCIS website says

For citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States to establish the relationship to certain alien relatives who wish to immigrate to the United States. Note: A separate form must be filed for each eligible relative. USCIS processes Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, as a visa number becomes available. Filing and approval of an I-130 is only the first step in helping a relative immigrate to the United States. Eligible family members must wait until there is a visa number available before they can apply for an immigrant visa or adjustment of status to a lawful permanent resident

Ms. Sheka, that does not apply to us. I don't remember the explanation as to why, but it doesn't. I guarantee you it DOES NOT apply.

guys i sat here reading my NOA1 and i saw this "USCIS MAY WAIT TO PROCESS FORMS I-130 UNTIL CLOSER TO THE TIME WHEN A VISA NUMBER WILL BECOME AVAILABLE, WHICH MAY BE YEARS AFTER THE PETITION WAS FILED. NEVERTHELESS, USCIS PROCESSES FORMS I-130 IN TIME NOT TO DELAY RELATIVES ABILITY TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP TOWARD PERMANENT RESIDENCE ONCE A VISA NUMBER DOES BECOME AVAILABLE."

so from reading this guys i know that my turn is depending on how many CR1/IR1 are currently pending for JAMAICA i noticed there were two here on VJ for AUGUST which was myself and another filer with NOA1 8/20/09 and NOA2 date 09/23/09 thats a 34 day average and being that the NOA1 date is 11 days before mine 169.gifmy little theory is that I AM NEXT IN LINE ON VJ FOR CR1/IR1 for JAMAICA :dance: i am now at day 31 so BRING IT ON CSC!! hippo.gif

I didn't think visa numbers applied to spouses, minor children and parents of US citizens. I thought the applied to other relatives (siblings, adult children, children and spouses of resident aliens, etc). Am I wrong??

MsSheka. You don't need to worry about the visa number becoming available if you are a US CITIZEN. I am assuming you are. This confused me too, but those damned bureaucratic people here in DC like to confuse everyone.

I hope this makes you feel better:

I am the beneficiary (applicant) and my case is at NVC. Now what happens?

This depends on whether or not your case is current. If your visa category is an immediate relative category (spouse, parent or child (under 21) of a U.S. citizen) then your case is automatically current. If your visa category is one of the family preference or employment categories, there are legal limits on the number of visas that can be issued in each category and in most categories, the demand is higher than those limits. In these categories, waiting lists have been established based on your priority date, which is the date your sponsor filed your petition with the CIS. Cutoff dates established by the Visa Office determine when your petition will be reached for processing. Your petition can only become current and thus ready for further processing when the cutoff date in your visa category has advanced up to your priority date.

Being married, a children under 21, or parents of a US CITIZEN makes you jump in front of the line :-)

Good morning! And yes, I'm feeling better. I was just overly tired I think! Thanks!

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!
