Hi everyone,

I divorced my ex in January 2006 due to abuse and was approved my VAWA petition in 2007. I received my green card in September 2008.

I have been dating a wonderful man since the summer of 2006 and we got engaged in June this year and plan to marry next summer. Since I have my green card do I need toinform USCIS when we marry. Will I need to change the name on my green card and my passport straightaway? We plan to honeymoon in England and I have just renewed my passport at a cost of $225. Could I just travel with my greencard in my maiden name and change the details afterwardsas I've heard it takes ages to change.

Has anyone else been through this?

Thanks in advance

Shona

Shona so happy to see you found love again. I am sure you do not need to notify USCIS of your marriage. If you want to change the name on your green card you need to submit the marriage certificate to change the name once you have it, AGAIN So Happy for you :)

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

USCIS requires you to inform them when you have a change of address. You havent yet married or started the process of filing so contacting them now isn't necessary. For travel purpose, your Airline ticket and the name in your passport must be the same.
