Welcome back Robert!

It sounds like you had a great time in Russia -- of course, how could you not--- you were lucky enough to spend an entire month with your dear Olya!

I see that your next trip is scheduled for New Year's --- if you haven't been in Russia before for the New Year's holiday you're in for quite a treat! New Year's in Russia is amazing! Just be prepared to keep saying to yourself, "Wait a minute... aren't these people about a week behind!?" You'll find yourself saying that often... at least during the times when you're sober enough to say ANYthing!

For the rest of the group--- be aware the medical checks are happening at all border crossings in Russia, not just at the airports. Lesya had some relatives who visited China and came back to Russia during the time that she and I were in Moscow. They also went through the scans when they crossed the border. Again, they're not that big of a deal.... just a slight delay in your journey.

This is a direct quote from my wife - "no money, no honey."

Ya you need money to get a queen bee, very hard to catch them in the wild.

Either that or you get them drunk!

Isn't there a tradition where you go to Red Square with your friends and all drink shots (of the local beverage!) as you make wishes for the New Year?

I've never flown through SVO, only DME - and there it is a breeze, everything is also posted in english, no baggage searches or checks and the train into Moscow proper is right there when you pass through border control. Connections for flights to other Russian cities are pretty easy also. I have flown in from Chicago where American had a direct ORD to DME flight every day - which made planning a trip a piece of cake.

Making my fourth trip this year in January - this time I have to negotiate a train trip to a village near Tambov to spend the time with Svetla and her parents - it's an overnight trip so my limited Russian will be put to the test, hopefully I will not wind up in Astrakhan by mistake.
