Ah yes, the distracting Russian women on the Metro you mention. Once, Irina and I were walking about, people-watching and she asked me how I liked the Russian girls. I said something ultra-corny about only noticing one, and she said something to the effect of "don't be stupid, look and enjoy!' God bless Russian women.

Anna pulled that one on me and I said something along the same lines. She made me take pictures of them to show my friends when I got home. When I couldn't manage to do that well enough, she took over the camera.

You would certainly think so; but they keep meeting us in person and agreeing to marry us anyway.

Yeah I keep asking Anna if she needs glasses or something, she says no, smiles, and takes my credit card.

I'd better say I'm kidding now that she's at my place and reading the forums. ;)

Man, you are so toasted. She will bleed all the money and energy and life out of you. You WILL be (and are) in Heaven.

My sister got married this past weekend, after 17 years together!!!???, and her new husband tried to use the Power of the Ring on her.

Didn't work. He only got clunked on the head with a rolling pin! And, he had to fetch her a beer!

I will be wearing my climbing helmut all the time once Alla gets here!!!!!

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

The good ones do not ask for anything while they are in Russia, but once they come here, it is better to hide all the credit cards. 180 degree change in behavior regarding money

Here's a man who knows what he's talking about.

Moral of story, do not have any credit cards, do not have any money!

This is a direct quote from my wife - "no money, no honey."

I also just returned from a month in Russia, but Kaluga (200 kilometers east and a bit south of Moscow). My first travels to Russia in 2006 I also flew Delta via JFK (from ORD) to SVO. But now American Airlines has direct flights from O'hare (ORD) to DME so this is how I now fly, plus for me it is much more convenient for us (Olya) for me to fly into DME instead of SVO.

On this flight the medical check was done on the airplane, but no medical card was needed to be filled out as Rob stated he needed to do, in this as in many things Russia it always seems to be "how the person in charge is feeling that day".

I have only once in 6 trips had my bags checked upon entering Russia and this was not my carry-on just a random put your checked luggage thru the x-ray machine before exiting customs. Maybe I just have a "friendly looking face?"

have not had the joy of riding the Moscow metro since 2007. This trip we did (Olya's gift to me) go on a 5 day "organized Russian tour" of Saint Peterburg, 2 of these days was the 12 hour bus ride to and from Kaluga to Peter, with the standard stops along the line to find a tree (toilet) to use. and stayed in a typical Russian hotel (2 rooms to a common bathroom), we had a great time, even though the tour did not include the Hermitage.
