Just curious.............how do your men shave their faces? With a shaver? clipper? or razor ? Do they do anything *special* to not have and/or get bumps?

Craig is driving me absolutely NUTS about shaving....cause he can't go to the "barber" to get a flippin shave (like he did in Jamaica)....and when he used my clipper set (don't know if he used the right settings), he got bumps.

ANY and ALL help with giving him some advice would be GREATLY appreciated ASAP !!!!

Bumps or razor burn are pretty common among black males in the US from what I've seen (making an assumption here, since he's from Jamaica). Me, I get the occasional zit from shaving, so I do it as infrequently as possible. Luckily, I work in IT and no one really cares about being clean-shaven. lol

I have a beard trimmer that I use to cut the growth down to a reasonable level.... my facial hair doesn't grow very quickly (thankfully!), so I only have to do this twice a week. After shaving this way, I have a moderate amount of stubble - what many guys would have by the end of the day if they shaved in the morning. Blade razors....they cause me all kinds of trouble, so I avoid them if at all possible.

Sorry I can't really be of any help.

Do you not have barbers where you live? Here in Jax we have great ones. My brother always goes there to get a shave...he loves it cause they do it right - with a straight razor and steam and hot towels and all that.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

And the question I forgot to ask... *points up*

Roy has bump problems but I think we have finally (kinda) figured it out. He uses a "Groomsman" electric shaver. It's super fast and sharp. Cost about $45.00 at Wal-Mart. He said if he uses a razor it will just be worse.

He MUST shave every two days.....we use BumpStopper on the bumps along with Vicks (it draws out the hairs) and Preparation H -- it reduces the swelling and also helps the hair pop out.

It's not perfect but it's the best we can do right now.....

one day in a pinch instead of using a shaving gel (as I had none), i instead used hand lotion. I hardly ever get shaving bumps anymore. Now while my skin is not as bad as some, I tend to shave almost everyday and it gets pretty irritated pretty fast (generally fridays are the only morning I don't shave). Leads to a lot of bumps. For some reason using a decent handlotion helps, don't know how or why, but that with a good razor works for me. Electrics tear my face all up. I don't know how anybody can use those things.

I use razor, electric shaver tends to give me bump. If you are on the east coast specially in NYC, you might be able to get this after shave call BUMP PATROL. it works, I even found it at rite aid while i was there.

Who has the time, never mind the money for a barber every day...?

(maybe if I win the lottery one day..)

As for me - Mach 3 razor and some warm/hot water... couple of minutes bada-bing..
