has anyone considered how the government will pay for this? the just UNDERestimated the budget deficit by $2 trillion. that's $2,000,000,000,000,000!!!! and that's BEFORE this health care bill.

and no one can produce even ONE example of a government program that saves money and comes in under budget. the US has deep pockets, but this kind of spending year in and year out (it's been this way for a while now - both sides are guilty) is going to delay economic growth, cause inflation and/or high interest rates, and ultimately result in bankruptcy. and that's not good for ANYONE.

no one denys that health care costs are escalating, but there are many things that can be done to curb that. AND, seeing that you're reading this thread on visajourney, you've surely experienced or seen the haphazard nature and inefficiencies of the USCIS and the DHS. 6 months to process a 10 page application??? how are they going to handle paper work for 300 million people? do you expect health care to be run any differently? why so much faith that the government will get it right THIS time???

people respond better when they're pulled in by incentives, not pushed in by legislation.

just my 2 cents......

Well put.

It's almost like people feel we are on a sinking ship so why not raid the bar and get free drinks.

Dream land! The government has proved so many times they cant run anything! My god man whats it take for some ppl to realize this well known fact?

Cash for clunkers went well.

I see how well Enron ran things. Maybe you could go to all of those Marc equivalents who lost their entire retirement in that company and tell them how well private companies run things.

If you pay poorly and hire clowns, public or private, anything will be run into the ground. Especially if the people working there are corrupt.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

A more valid and relevant comparison would be to examine how Medicare and Medicaid are funded and run, and the pros and cons. Comparisons to other government agencies (USCIS, postal service, DMV) are meaningless in this context.

Have you missed the part about the public option being proposed as a product for purchase?

Cash for clunkers went well? I suppose thats why it ran out of money so fast, and thousands of dealerships STILL haven't received the money they paid out yet.

I agree that it was an ill-conceived program in many ways, but still not a good comparison w/ healh care.

Why did a program whose sole purpose was to generate vehicle sales run out of money? Because people used it to purchase 700,000 cars.

Assume I was to sell Iphones at a discount and I run out of stock, to the point that I couldn't even cope with the demand.

Does this mean:

a. I failed?

b. that my sale was a huge success?

The government is not capital one. They will get paid in time.

I would never rush a payment to a car dealer.

You sure make a lot of excuses for Stabenow's bill. How about the destruction of the cars that are turned in. Did you know they have to put silica in the engine and blow it? These are sometimes perfectly good, late model cares that are just wrecked because Stabenow can't get over her global warming BS.
