Hello everyone.. My fiance and I are currently in the visa process (received NOA1, waiting on NOA2) and I have been back to Jamaica twice to visit but only for a week/10 days. I recently got layed-off from my job and have more time on my hands. I've applied to other jobs but now it is a waiting game.. I want to spent this free time with my guy in Jamaica. So my question is this- Can I book a one-way flight to JA (Is that legal??) I am planning on staying for 2 or 3 weeks. And will it be a problem when I go through customs? I'd appreciate any knowledge/ advice on this topic.. Thank you so much and good luck to all with your own "visa journey"!

I am sure you can book a one way to Jamaica. I never thought about customs. That's a good question. I am sure if you tell them that you are planning to stay about a month and you did not book your return flight because you were unsure of your departure date or your fiance is going pay for your return flight , I don't know, but they do ask you some personal questions at customs in Jamaica. Most times they stamp your book for 3 to 6 months anyway.

Good luck!

I don't think so. I think you HAVE to have a return ticket. It can be open ended. Or else you have to make round trip and then pay the $150 or so after the fact to change the return date. I've done it before. Missed a flight and then called a week or so later to rebook it with the fee. Check the airlines; but you usually have up to a year to change the return flight to another date. And there is ALWAYS a fee.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I say book a return flight for 3 weeks out and change it if you have to.

Better safe than sorry!!

I have gone and had them stamp my passport authorizing me to stay 2 weeks and sometimes they have stamped that I could stay 6 months... it depends on the Immigration officer you get I guess...

I found this in a google search:

Visitors must have a return ticket and be able to show sufficient funds for their visit. U.S. citizens traveling to Jamaica for work or extended stays are required to have a current U.S. passport and visa issued by the Jamaican Embassy or a Jamaican Consulate. There is a departure tax for travelers, which is regularly included in airfare. For further information, travelers may contact the Embassy of Jamaica at 1520 New Hampshire Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20036, telephone (202) 452-0660; the Jamaican Consulate in Miami or New York; honorary consuls in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Seattle or Los Angeles. Visit the Embassy of Jamaica web site for the most current visa information.

Best of luck (F)

You will need to show your income unless you plan to use a co-sponser for the affidavit for the interview. You will need current pay stubs. So you make want to still keep out for getting a job.

fno u don't what about children who are born here and stay a yr plus? when i was booking my husbands ticket to come to the US the airline told me no i couldn't and asked if he has sufficient proof of not having to have a return ticket

They want prof that your not going to work in the country. If you don't have proof they will put you back on the plane. I hear my friends tell me stories of putting someone back on the plane and sending them home. They say that immigration usually deports someone back mostly everyday. Be careful. If it was me I would say get a return flight for sure.

My 3 best friends are immigration officers. I agree if you know that you are going to stay for three weeks then it's cheaper to book a flight for both ways.

When my hubby got his visa he came on a one way ticket no prob cause he had proof he was staying.

I never had my passport book stamped for 3 months until I was married and we had our daughter. It depends the officer you get how long they will give you. I wish I came in when a friend was working maybe they stamp it longer  but I could never stay more than a couple months cause of work. If you really want me to ask one of my friends who is an Immigration officer I will. Just pm me.

I have booked one way flights to JA previously and the most recent was my April trip. I am not sure if its because of my parentage but I was not asked about work status in JA. They review your travel history and base your duration stamp on that info and it does depend on which officer is reviewing your info, but I always recv a 3-6 month stamp. If I was not a frequent traveler I don't think I would chance any issues and just purchase a return trip and pay the 150.00 change fee. Good Luck
