Does the AOS payment have to be in a money order in the petitioners name.. ?

A money order/cashier check drawn in a US bank in the amount of $70.00. It has to be made payable to the department of state. Of course, it is the petitioner whose name will be on the money order.

Why don't you wait for the mail from NVC? The instructions say it all in plain and simple. You are getting worried too much.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

I do not know what you can do in this situation. You can contact NVC by phone or email (NVCINQUIRY@state.gov). You may also contact the local US Embassy and seek for their advices. I am sure, someone who had similar experience like yours will reply here too.
