Filling in London

Hi, I am just about to post off my I-130 through DCF to London. I am US Citizen who has lived in the UK for 2 years, and married a UK citizen last September. I have just got a new job, which means that in 3 months time I will be working in the US for 3 months. Then I MAY be offered a permanent position in the US after that. MY concern is that during my training I would like my wife to come and visit me. Obviously, if i go back permanently in 6 months time - I want her to be with me! - Is this possible whilst applying through DCF for a K-3? - Is this my best course of action? - and are there any secrets I need to know before filling?

It is very possible in the six months time, your process should be completed or nearing completion. As far as her visiting while you are in the states, many people do it. Just make sure she brings evidence of her ties to the UK, and that she will be returning. Of course honesty is the best policy when going through the POE. Yes DCF is your best option! Secrets, have lots of patience and all of the required documentation up front and ready to be sent back. If you haven't already applied for a police certificate for your wife, you may want to get that taken care of, it is currently taking 40 days.

Yeah, I agree with Tim and Bethany... I would start getting everything together (affidavits, police and birth certs.) etc so when you get your aprroval and packet 3 you can send it back straight away and get your interview asap...

Congrats on all the news---what an exciting year for you!

Very Important: DCF does not lead to a K-3 visa. The resulting visa is an Immigrant Visa (CR-1). Please read the DCF Guide for imporant information about this visa type and status.

Once you put the I-130 in, you're looking at 4-6 months to complete the visa application steps. The UKC can visit during any of this time; she should be prepared to show evidence of her ties to the UK (including that it is your permanent address).

If you get the transfer when you expect, you may be done with the visa app. If not, your wife will have to wait a bit behind you to complete her process. Starting now, you should be well finished to coordinate with your schedule.
