I think I know what it is -- I had some excellent time based feedback (exact times it was slow). The seem to coincide with a certain script I run every 20 minutes. I will change it to run once an hour instead. It basically is the site search indexing (new searches are only able to find items run as recently as the script ran).

5/4/10 received AOS and DS3032 via email
9/22/10 Interview BOG Passed
10/3/10 POE JFK all went well
11/11/10 GC Received smile.png

I have also noticed an intermittent delay - one post will take forever to load, then the next ones are fine. A little later it again takes a long time to load a post. It doesn't seem to be two or three posts in a row, but it does seem to be happening more often than every 20 minutes - at least for me.

It's been hanging this morning so I'm going to start posting the times:

7:40am - 4 minutes

Well that one I can explain (although it should not be that long of a delay). Every hour at 41 minutes past the hour I run an script to inde the new posts so they can be found in the forums search tool. It should be much faster.

The script that ran every hour will now run every four hours. This impacts "search" in that you can only search for topics greater than 4 hour old (probably not a huge issue). It will reduce the number of these particular slow downs by four times. It will execute at 41 minutes after each hour at 0,4,8am....

I think I nailed down the main culprit and it is not "search". It is the "Find member's posts". I will re-enable search indexing every 20 minutes as this seems to NOT be the issue. I am going to fix the issue by making the "Find member's posts" limited to three months. I can understand finding members old topics (I will leave very old) but the "Find member's posts" will now be three months will will speed up the search ALOT. This should reduce our issues we have been seeing.
