As a 'flag waving not-so-much-in the armchair' veteran- who is certainly not gutless--I said NO to would I want my son joining the Army. If he really wanted to be a part of the Military, I would steer him towards the Air Force and their professions ( after college).

I'm Army but I would recommend Air Force instead... much better quality of life. Privates in the Air Force get better food & housing than field grade officers in the Army!

however, rank progression is slower in the air force.

It is.

so the army only offers grunt jobs...and the air force is for the intellectual gifted...?

of course it is not and i mis understood brother tmma

IK HOU VAN JOU, MARK

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

I seriously cannot answer this question. There are certainly some courses I hope my child does not pursue, but I don't have a preference at this point in time. As long as she is happy, confident, and can survive on what she makes, I will support her.

I would prefer she not choose the military, but I will support her if she does.

I said law so maybe they can support me in my old age if need be ha ha.

No and no. I like RJ would be behind them if they wanted to join but would not encourage it. I thank every single service person, no matter what branch, and trust me I live in a military area here in the US, so very glad they work to make life better for everyone.

I really don't care what my Son does for work, as long as he is happy - so I picked vagabond.

As for the armed forces, no and no. I would never encourage him to join the military. I would prefer that no parent ever had to experience their Son or Daughter being put in harms way - as an aside his Father was in the Army.

He would never enlist, he is a peacenik.
