I don't know specifically what Kerry said but if it was limited to denouncing the atrocities that occurred then there's nothing wrong with that.

Kerry said he'd participated in actions which made him a war criminal. It's telling when the only people backing Kerry's version were his shipmates except one sailor. The rest of his unit didn't appreciate his contributing to trashing Vietnam War vets.

However as I stated earlier what Kerry has done as a politician and/or what he said after Vietnam are separate issues from what he did as a military officer. Same goes for Bush, although any way you slice it Kerry served in a combat zone & Bush didn't.

Again, Kerry served during the height in the war not in circa 1972 as Bush had. I suppose Nixon could reversed Vietnamization just so 2LT Bush could see combat but personally I think that's too much.

Also, Bush's service wasn't central to his run for president; by contrast, Kerry's service was the only thing.

- If his service buddies are mad that Kerry lied about what happened that's one thing, but if they're mad cus they have a "what happened in Vietnam stays in Vietnam" mentality that's quite another.

- As for your 2nd point I agree with what you said about Bush, but the right tried to slander Kerry's military service & that's why it became an issue.

If the information in this article is accurate then the reporter should have told the truth. However once again right wing hypocrisy rears its ugly head, as John Kerry DID serve in Vietnam (receiving at least a Bronze Star as I recall) & the Republicans dragged him through the mud. I personally didn't care much for John Kerry as a politician, but the fact that the Republicans went after his service record was disgusting. Same goes for Bush... lousy President, but tell the (whole) truth about his service record.

To borrow the VJ Right's phrase "where's the outrage" over how Kerry was treated?

Pssst: it wasn't the news media doing it to Kerry. it was a group of "fellow swift boaters" IIRC.

It wreaked of dirty partisan politics, which of course according to you is OK as long as a Democrat is on the receiving end.

Favorite pass time in the service was BSing, and some were far better at it than others. Nothing else to do while waiting to do something, no girls, no drinks, just BSing.

It's my prognosis that Kerry was a chronic BSer, but not a very convincing one. Have to be a very good BSer to be elected in politics.

Bush did have the courage to send men where he would be scared stiff to go himself.

No actually, I would never go along with slandering someones military record, you are blaming "The Right" when the who problem for Kerry began when he embellished his service.... or thats what some who served with him felt.

Look politics if a full contact sport, you take advantage of your opponents weakness but I have never been about spreading lies and falsehoods.

I have no reason to believe Bush was a Coward .. anymore than the tens of thousands of other service men who served in the Guard at the time.

The fact thats some groups will stoop to such levels to slander Bush or others, is not so noteworthy, what is is the way the media fed into the lie... even fabricating it.

THAT IS THE TROUBLING ASPECT TO ME.
