I made a previous post about going back and forth when shopping for a new car to lease and that I really wanted to go domestic versus foreign. Well in the end I ended up going with a new Toyota Camry as the price was right and I got a lot of car with the money as opposed to most domestic dealerships having horrible prices and even less options with their cars.

Well on Tuesday I'm on my way home from work, and luckily I only live about 15 minutes away (so nice let me tell ya not having to commute too far :) ). Well I'm stopped at a red light with maybe 20 cars in front of me, and then all of a sudden I just can hear the back part of my car buckling in like a squashed pop can, then a huge bang, then my entire body shoots forward towards the windshield. Luckily I had my seatbelt on but just as I'm at the farthest forward point, boom again, I slam into the car that was 25 feet in front of me and go shooting backwards LOL. The guy behind me was either texting or reading a newspaper, not sure which as when he got out he had a cell phone already in hand with the newspaper falling off his lap. He never looked up and saw that traffic was stopped and went about 40 mph into the back of me, according to the police report.

Just got a nice call today from the dealership and although the car hasn't been inspected yet, his body shop guys estimated the damage to my car at about $12,000. Luckily I'm fine and everything but just showed me maybe I should've taken an extra day or two to find a domestic car haha. I had the car all of three weeks and racked up a total of 498 miles before it was destroyed LOL.

Lol He just got a ticket as Michigan issues them on a mandatory basis when you hit someone from behind. No matter if you slid into them on ice or anything, they just say it's a 100% fault ticket as there should've been more room between you and the car. He got out, little old Chinese guy, said sorry twice, then quickly went behind his car and hid from us. I hit the car in front of me and that shot him into the car ahead of him, which just happened to be a brand new Mercedes. The woman in that car was ready to go crazy all over the lil Chinese guy if he did or said anything haha.

Good lord - hope you enjoy the brand new car. ;)

Glad you're okay. That's a scary thing to have happen.

:) Thank you. I just got another call from the insurance company and unless the damage is 80% of the value they're just going to fix it. That car is not going to drive right and I still have it for two years, eleven months, and one week LOL, yaaaay

That's just flippin' stupid. It's a brand new car and they're wanting to drop $12k on it? Just total it!

Oh man! That sounds painful. Sorry your new car got dinged up! Although that's pretty much an understatement...

This reminds me of the accident I saw happen in front of me the other day. The traffic light was out so everyone forgets how to drive and what to do. Two women crashed into each other when they tried to merge into the same lane at the same time without using turn signals. Thankfully traffic was flowing at 10mph so the cars just got fused together  People are just ridiculous sometimes!

I agree with Krikit, I love the new Camry's!

OMIGAWD! What a tool. Hope you don't suffer any residual effects of the accident. Just be aware of any cricks in your neck or headaches.

My funniest car accident story (not that yours is funny) took place in the parking lot of the Motor Vehicle Bureau in Halifax where they test people for their driver's license. I was sitting in my instructor's car waiting for my tester. A teenage boy was ahead of me for the test. He got in the car with the tester and proceeded to plow into an unoccupied parked car when he backed out of his parking spot. And he kept on going until both cars were demolished. The poor guy never got it out of reverse. Needless to say, he flunked. The good news was nobody got hurt and I was laughing so hard (I know, not nice but it looked like something out of a movie), it took all the tension away for my test. I often wonder how long it took that kid to try the test again.

WOW, it gives new meaning to your screen name! LOL Sorry,...I was reading your post and looked up at your screen name and kinda chuckled. I am so sorry to hear about your accident. I am so glad your ok. Alot of people today do everything but drive behind the wheel. I was beside a guy at the lights downtown a few days ago, first thing in the morning who was sitting there using his cordeless shaver. $12,000 costs less for them to fix it then to replace it which is what they look at. Which actually sucks for you. Again, glad your ok! Take care.

Wow, that sucks, glad ur ok! I to got rear ended by a young kid in Victoria back in 2000--was the big Finale of the very first survivor that night, lol! Luckily I purchased the extra replacement insurance for my Integra, as it was only a few months old! It was like an accordion--but I walked away!! I had to fight to get them to write it off, but they did! handed me a cheque for the exact amount I paid for it!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Wow, I'm glad you're ok.

Reminds me of last December. I had my car for about 6 months and was driving to the gym. Some 17 year old kid decided not to check before changing lanes and changed lanes right into me. I was SO mad, he hit my first brand new car!

I followed him until he pulled over (yes, he didn't stick around) and he said "can I just throw you some cash". I said no, he gave me his name and number and drove away. The next day I called his mom and told her what happened and said I was going through insurance because her son didn't want to deal with me.

I had a headache for 3 days because of it. No other effects because I didn't tense up, I didn't see him coming!

05/30/2012 - Sent ROC packet to VSC

06/08/2012 - Received NOA1 for ROC (Dated 06/04/2012)
